Sorry to stick my oar in and be pedantic. But you just agreed with andy. He said some haven't been reimbursed. You said most have. That's the same thing. If it's not all of them then There must be some that haven't had any money

Really enjoyed it thanks. Got to grips with a couple of the most delightful Korean gals. We partied all week. Not sure about medals. Didnt bother watching any lifting. As team manager my responsibility ended when I got the team there. Passports, visas, travel, accomodation etc. Basic stuffWink

Well thanks for your facts there, i think it is time i bowed out of this as it seems i know nothin, for someone who has no interest in powerlifting it seems strange you have so many views on it.
By the way how is the oly lifting going these days ??

As a member of the GBPF hierachy, wouldnt you be best staying and proving to the members that you do indeed know something. These people are paying good money to the GBPF after all. Dont they deserve better than "It seems I know nothing?" If what I have stated isnt fact I'm sure many GBPF members would like to know what is.

Why? This is an open forum. I have no great interest in many things but I have many views on them. Most people do. Besides, I said that I have no interest in an AGM, not PL. I have several interests in PL.

The GBPF AGM is down to take place on the 7th March. All members of GBPF can attend and all decisisions are made on the basis of one member one vote by the members present on the day.

The agenda and motions will be published in advance of the meeting (as they were this year). If you have any proposals, or wish to put yourself or others up for positions then there is nothing stopping you.

The Inaugural General Meeting of the English Powerlifting Association is due to take place in the new year. Only GBPF members who are not registered with Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland are entitled to attend. Voting will be one vote per each entitled person. I thought this meeting was taking place on 17th January.

No offence but the above sounds like a f**king s**t system.

Do you really expect people to have to fork out for travel, possibly take tome off work, sort out child care simply to attend an AGM at the arse end of the country so soon after having to fork out at Christmas?

Why not have a postal vote? Spend 50p or whatever it is out of the £40 annual membership on a stamp!

I think major decisions and AGMs usually work like that in any large organisation of this kind, to be fair - votes in person after discussion rather than postal votes. I can see both sides of that one - and I think, were it up to me, that part of the system wouldn't change.

As a complete outside who has never competed in any fed... you should look at how things like this affect your fed. For example imagine some new guys looking to compete then seeing threads like this about your federation.... they would steer well clear, which can't be good for growth.

I never realised PL had so much politics, there seems to be more than there is in bodybuilding.

Can't everyone just get on, you all have one goal, lift some heavy weights, it can't be that hard to organise can it?

Good point well made, but most of the criticism of GBPF in this thread has come from non-GBPF members. Some may be justified (the organisation is in the first year of its existence and Rome wasn't built in a day), but the rest is just internet vitriol.

Most of the people who turn up to these meetings are actually the people who give a s**t about the sport. The ones who actually make an effort to attend their divisional contests regardless of whether they are lifting or not in order to help other lifters or help on the platform. It's those people who realise it's not just someone elses job to run contests, coach new lifters or do administration. Nobody get paid for doing jobs for powerlifting or gets any benefits, people volunteer because they want to see it done properly. It is understood that many people have busy professional lives and family commitments and just want to lift. Posting on forums slagging everything/everyone off will not initiate any positive change, as Steve pointed out attend the AGM and vote for change or put yourself forward to help sport.
