To discount someone's opinion simply because they are not a member of an organisation is just plain stupidity. If thats the mentality of the GBPF then I'm fairly confident it will end up on its arse.

Good advice/constructive criticism, even abuse that contains possibly valid points should all be taken on board. Good advice is good advice no matter where or what form it comes in.

And for the record I think your all c**ts, especially JC.

Honestly. The GBPF have, admittedly, handled their news releases and public relations/image management pretty badly over the last couple of months, but what a lot of sound and fury.

The BWLA webs**te never had anything remotely useful or up to date on it, it was appalling. Is it really so peculiar that the GBPF want their records keeper to keep the records up to date on their website?

It's worth pointing out, I think, that Ian himself is still running YNE's arm of the GBPF - he's not walking away from the fed!

So effectively nobody has been sacked, the GBPF have simply asked somebody other than Ian Hampson to keep their website up to date. I can't see a problem with that myself.

So I have just wasted 10 minutes reading through all the boll***s on this thread for nothing. Oh well, back to my McMuffin's.

Beat me to it. LOL.

Having a go is one thing Martin. Telling non GBPF members that they know nothing so they should f**k off is another. If said international lifter holds an official position within the GBPF and doesnt state that he is commenting only from personal opinion then he is leaving his comments open as being taken as the word of the GBPF. Very, very poor communication skills at best.

It's the despair that anyone with half a brain would imagine that he hadn't been asked. And the frustration of knowing that whenever anything happens for the next so many years some wag (probably a non member) will draw comparison with the India fiasco (regarding which steps have been taken to ensure it will never be repeated). And the further frustration that the GBPF has no paid staff and is comprised entirely of volunteers with full time jobs who give up copious amounts of time (and often money) to maintain and develop the organisation, and who have all the good they do taken for granted and are subject to internet vitriol whenever something goes wrong.

I wont bother commenting on what Joe said as Littler has pretty much said what I would have and in a much better way.

I do find it interesting though Martin that you describe India as a 'fiasco' and yet seemingly no body else (especially not non members) are allowed to comment on it. This is an internet 'discussion' board where surprisingly enough, people discuss things, we arent all going to agree, some opinions will be misguided, but we are all allowed to have them and all allowed to discuss them.

I also strongly believe that the fact that you give up your own time to do these things doesnt makes you immune from criticism. Just so there is no confusion let me make clear 'I have the utmost respect for anyone who gives up any of their free time to help, and not just lifting, any sport.' BUT, when you put yourself forward for positions of responsibility, you also take on that responsibility and open yourself up for criticism when things dont go according to plan.

I, along with about 7 or 8 other volunteers give up between 15 and 20 hours of my week, every week to help with a sport. I dont get paid, it costs me a small fortune that I will never get back, I do it because I love it and enjoy it. We are also arranging international trips over the next two years which involves other peoples money being dependent on what I do. I am 100% accountable for that.

Does that fact that I give up my time for free, at my own expense, make me immune from criticism? Do I need to get people to sign up to my club before they can have the right to criticize me?

No. Criticism is always worth listening to even if you then discount it as vitriol (as lots of it probably will be). It's criticism that allows to take on other views and improve what we do. The day I hide behind the fact that I'm volunteering is the day that I stop wanting to improve.
