Super G has taken early retirement, but rumour has it boredom has set in and he may well be making a comeback anytime soon Tongue

Saturday night Deadlifts, 170kg ( +10kg ), 5x5.
I have a problem deadlifting at home because the knurling on my bar is very coarse and makes a right mess of your hands. I therefore did the first set with no straps, but then used straps for the subsequent sets to prevent loss of skin !
Should be happy with 180kg next session.

Tuesday nights Session :

Bench Press, 125kg ( +5kg ), 5,5,5,5,4
Slightly amazed to make 4 on the last set because the last rep of the 4th set stopped halfway up and took about 3 seconds of heaving to lock it out. My triceps were fried after that and I expected the final set to be a disaster, so 4 was a bit of a result. Stick to this weight next session.
French Press, 52.5kg ( +2.5 ), 5,5,5,4,4
Triceps were fooked after the Bench.

No training last night as I was in Berkshire buying a Bentley off the manager of Status Quo, INXS, Sissor Sisters etc. Hard life...

Last session :
Dumbell Rows, 50kg+Dumbell ( +5kg ), 5x5 each arm.
Barbell Curls, 52.5kg ( +2.5kg ), 5x5.

Took my lad and Rotties camping on Anglessey over the weekend because lads love spending time with their dads, and dads love spending time away from their wives, so no training, but tonight I will Squat.

Last nights session :
Squats, 140kg ( +20 kg ), 5x5, very very deep as always.
Was planning to go +10 and settle for 130, but reminded myself I used to warm up with more than this and decided to make a bigger jump to speed up progress.
They were deep and smooth and very controlled, I know I can Squat more but I don't want to stress my back too much too soon - my low back is the weakest link here.
150kg next session.

Pushed for time last night so a quick garage session :
Overhead Press, 80kg, 5x5.
Was pleased to finally make the reps although the last one took a couple of seconds to lock out, not a bad ten minutes work really.

Last nights session ;
Deadlifts, 180kg ( +10kg ), 5x5.
Now then, I was fooked.
Two things, first I have now put 30kg on the bar in the last two sessions, which is maybe too much too soon and yet I made the reps, the problem was not weight but fitness.
Which brings me to point two. I think I can fairly attribute some of my fookedness to the heat. It was damned hot in that garage and I was soaked after my third set.
I will stick to this weight for the next session and see how I fare.
Meanwhile, weight is now 19 stone 7 pounds, which is +5 lbs over my last weigh in.
I am half a stone away from buffoonery once again.

My chalk arrived and this was my first deadlift session with chalked hands. I was stunned at the difference. Holding it was a total doddle, and yet I have burst blood vessels in both forearms from hanging on !

Last nights sesh :

Very disappointed with this, I felt strong and thought I was going to put this weight through the roof, even contemplated putting the weight up to 127.5kg.
Same weight next week.

At a Barbeque yesterday afternoon and the conversation turned to weight training. Long story short, a group of lads ended up in the guys garage where he had an Oly weight kit and a rack. We squatted, just for fun, just to see how much each other could squat.
I was drunk and not taking things very seriously but ended up squatting 160, 180, 200 and 220 for singles.
A 220kg single is equal to my PB squat, and this was drunk and I'm in no fit condition for max singles having only just switched to power training again.
I was pleasantly surprised and I am sure I could have done more.
I'm thinking a lot of this is mental rather than physical, maybe I can lift more than I believe I can...

Fell out of the habit of updating this journal, like many of my tutors used to tell me all those years ago, I really must try harder.
Still soldiering on, making slow progress back to mediocrity.
On the plus side the body weight has returned to 20 stones exactly, which is nice, and my lifts are approaching my previous best efforts, which is encouraging.

Recent contact with Mr Littler has renewed my enthusiasm for the sport. I am beginning to think that training alone is not the way forward - I made my best ever progress training with Jonny at reps. I think I need to seek out like minded companions to help maintain my drive and to push me harder than I push myself.

With this in mind I am attending the Strongman comp on Sunday to watch Andy and Jonny and the others, and to talk bollox with Fat Pete.

Commencing the re-launch of Super Galloot, suitably inspired by Sundays Strongman comp at Ashton.

No singles, no triples, no lateral dumbell raises with the little finger higher than the thumb, just sensible hard work to get back into some sort of condition.

Deadlifts, 170kg, 5x5. Arse nice and low, plenty of leg drive. First two sets quite tough and it felt heavy, then 3 and 4 much better. Last set a bit of a grind, but good enough reps. Note the absence of straps, I will never use straps again !!!

Dumbell Row, 55kg, 5x5. First set tough, then settled into it, sets got easier as I progressed.

Very frustrating to be struggling with so little weight, but that's where I am so that's where I have to start. Back nice and tender this morning !
First goal, 200kg for 5x5, 6 to 8 weeks should do it.
