By popular request from my adoring fans - honestly, Rick DID actually ASK !!!
Here is my training journal.

Ok, well, erm I haven't actually trained today.
But, I thought I would start with where I am and where I am going...

I've been into Bodybuilding ( shock, horror, how very dare he mention THAT on a PL forum ) since my mid teens but never lifted "heavy", always working in the higher rep ranges with moderate weights. Late last year I became interested in getting stronger and started training a 5x5 routine. I was weighing around 17 stones at the time.

In May this year I was 20 stone 4 pounds and made PB's of 200/170/210 -ie still not very heavy but surprisingly this was considerably more than I was lifting before.

I then had a "forced break" from training due to relocation of my business and ended up having about a 2 month lay off. I then got back at it with a passion, made myself a member of Reps Gym in Preston and started training 3 sessions a week with Jonny Wildboar ( which I can confirm is, in fact, a completely made up name ).

Anyhow, I attempted new PB's about 3 weeks ago and made 220/160/240 at a bodyweight of 19 stone 4 pounds - a stone lighter than I was in May and the Bench Press had gone backwards.

My targets for year end were, and still are, 250/180/250 but I have to be realistic and state that at least two of them are not going to happen given the time remaining. Instead I am looking at revised targets of 227.5 Squat, 170 Bench and 250 Deadlift.

In addition, I am now 18 stone 11 pounds - due mainly to excessive amounts of cardio with a young, and very passionate, text happy Scottish Girl. Sadly, due to the distance between us, sniff, sniff, most of the calories are being expended through the actions of my thumb on my mobile phone keypad...

So anyway, where am I going ?
The truth is I don't really know and never really have.
But generally to lift more and weigh less. I am "lucky" genetically and would find it quite easy to weigh considerably more, but I'm not into the Power Belly type look. Years of Bodybuilding have imprinted the wide shoulders, narrow waist image in my mind and I don't really want to stray too far from that appearance, whilst trying to make my lifts competive for my weight.

So thats me, and as of Monday this will be a record of my training. Feel free to drop in, pass comment and hurl abuse at any time Grin

That is definitely the most unflattering pic I have ever seen of me !!!
Your a nasty man.
Training over the festive period will be pretty hit and miss !
Next Monday and Wednesday are for definite, and next Friday definitely not because its my last Scottish visit before Christmas.
Monday is Christmas Day, so will be off but the Wednesday should be on...and the following Friday I will be in Scotland again !

Meanwhile I have started my mild cardio...2 miles Running nice and steady. Didn't time it but nice and easy to break back into my running regime. Legs getting tight as I speak...and tomorrow is Deadlifts so I might live to regret this !!!

Wednesday 27th - heavy bench session I vote! I will probably just train with you both even if you do something else that day.

Jonny do you fancy some deadlifts next Sunday? If so leave some in the tank tomorrow Wink I don't mind chauffering you to Reps/Cats if you're still having car troubles.

Wednesday would be Bench and OHP Rob, so would fit right in.
I might also be up for some Deads on the Sunday so please keep me posted with your plans and I'll try and join in unless the "family" have other plans for my time !

yep wed 27th is chest and shoulders rob (will have to be 7.30 as usual as im working) and a week today would be great for some deadlifts, some will deffo be in the tank as my rib may prevent a full on sesh tomorrow. (one of cats/reps will be open, fairly sure reps will be 10-2)

good luck with the jogging dan (represses sn***ering) i lasted 4 times down langdale rd, past the park thru town and back to mine (2 were walking)

I fondly remember my power walks down Langdale Road during my college days... to Th'Owd Chippy.

7.30 is fine on the Wednesday and will look forward to next Sunday - we'll sort out exact details nearer the time!

Training with the Boar in the Boars Shed, which was both an honour and a priviledge in equal measure.

The weights were slightly barmy as they were in pounds and we converted to kilos on the fly...and I cant remember what I lifted !
Anyway, I did about 140x5, about 180x5, about 200x3, about 210x3 and finished with 220.5x3. The bar was ever so slightly horrible and the knurling hurt my hands, but such is life.

Bent Over Rows, a very risky pastime with the Boar lurking behind you !!!
We used about 70kg for 4 sets of 10, 10, 8, 10.

Finished with Barbell Curls, 40kg plus the bar, 4, 6, 5, 5. The first set was strange, it felt very heavy for some reason.

The Boar shot some interesting footage, which will no doubt make an appearance at some point.

Weight now 18 stone 9 pounds. My weight isn't a target in itself, its just a by product of my training and diet but I do monitor it regularly.

Next session Wednesday, Bench, Overheads and Triceps.

Wednesday Bencherama at Reps Iron Emporium...
Bench Press
100kgx8, 120kgx6, 130kgx4, 140kgx2, 130kgx4, 120kgx6, 100kgx8.
Easy peasy lemon squeezy except for the same annoying twinge in the left elbow. Note to self, do not throw heavy ( but cute ) girls around in swimming pools.

Dumbell Overhead Press, 64lbs each hand, 9,6,6,7. I don't do dumbells often and it shows. The left one in particular taking a very meandering route up and down !

Tricep Pushdowns ( machine ), 8 plates, 8,8,8,6 ouch.

Good sesh, nice and knackered in the correct areas.
I'll miss Fridays sesh due to being in Scotland - again - but as usual I will be serving up lashings of cardio of the most fun variety Tongue

Hoping to make a Sunday Deadlift sesh with Jonny and Rob. I mentioned it to the "wife" tonight and the very idea that "it's Christmas Eve" and I might be training drove her into a frenzy of expletives that even Gordon Ramsey with a wasp up his ass would be proud of. So I will do my best to be there Grin

Sunday Deadlift sesh was off due to the broken rib incident - not mine, Jonny's - and of course due to accidentally drinking far too much Vodka last night. Something to do with something called Christmas. Not entirely sure what it entails, but I am sure Vodka is involved.

Running, 2.5 miles, slightly faster than last time. Jolly hot and sweaty, monster pump in the quads. Shower. Eat. Chill. Drink Vodka.
