Now I know all five letters.
There is an obvious anagram which I know to be wrong.
Ten minutes pass as I get more and more tempted to use an anagram dictionary, before suddenly
GGGGG
Now that it's a dead letter, I shall tell you that it was pisco. Which would have made many here rather sour... Wink.

Thank you Rick. I was incorrect about what I thought the guess was too. I had guessed it was cisco.
Pisco may have been taking the pisco… Apologies, that was woeful!

Actually arrived at 14:00 only to find the place full of weightlifters all doing weightlifter things - that is to say picking things up and not putting anything down. They take up much room. It is not unknown for three weightlifters to be squatting using three different bars, three sets of stands and three sets of weights. All reasonable enough but odd to my eye especially when there is a power bar and a grade A industrial, adjustable power-rack being ignored.

On a positive note one of the aforementioned weightlifters did a 150 kilo set of paused squats using a power bar on Steph and Louise (the aforementioned grade A, industrial, adjustable power racks). I can't recall the last time I saw that and it fair gladdened the heart.

After an hour or so of waiting, I commenced

Deadlift, squat boots on
70 x 3
70 x 3
90 x 3
110 x 3
130 x 3
150 x 3
170 x 3
185 x 3
195 x 3

An abbreviated session, done and dusted in around fifty minutes, which is really quick for me. A post retirement PB triple and a lot easier on the hands. The 185 was a shade slippy in the hands and the third had to be put down a bit sharpish. I chalked for the 195 and it was solid. I may just have learned something tonight.

I have rummaged deep into my wardrobe, located a special cap, allowed it to adorn my head and I doff it heartily in your direction Pete. Excellent.

A two in under ten seconds.

Everything fell straight into place.

Same as Wayne, a very quick and straightforward five.

XXXXX
XXYXX
GYYXX
GGGXG

No scribbling required, which is quite rare for me.

Wigan and I had a conversation yesterday about how one gets a "feel" for the type of word they select. Well that played me false today, I was near certain that my fourth was correct. There were three more possibilities but happily two were excluded by the surfeit of "X"s in the first two guesses

Thank you kindly Sir. The doff of a cap is a pleasant thing indeed, the fact that a special cap has been rummaged for delights me :-)

Another quick one, something between 10-20 seconds for a satisfying 3

A very pleasing 3 as I was stuck after the 2nd guess for quite some time.

A relatively quick but slower than it should have been four.

XGXXG
XXXXY
GGXYG

The first three were swift, and effectively gave me GGGXG and obviously the "Y" had to move one place to the left. What was disappointing was that it took what seems a longer than it should have amount of time to come up with the answer.

An uncomplicated four. Took a calculated gamble on the third but safe in the knowledge that it should guarantee a four if it was incorrect.

Very pleasing Mr Pete!

I recalling chastising you several times over the years regarding your hands and the deadlift, offering potential solutions and you completely ignoring them:

So, in-keeping with tradition, here they are again for you to promptly discard as nonsense
  • Keep your calouses trimmed/filed down - Don't completely remove them, but don't keep them as great big hulking things protruding from you palm by a 1cm
  • Moisturise your hands regularly. Supple skin does not tear as easily as brittle skin
  • When training, use chalk sooner rather than later (as you discovered in the last session, chalking up at 150kg or 170 would have been the smart thing to do).
  • If your hands are particularly delicate for any reason, use straps for the session/next few sessions for your deadlift work and let them heal up.
You can always throw in a couple of sets of double overhand shrugs at a lighter weight when unloading the bar at the end of the session to safely work your grip without fear of damaging your hands further

I look forward to having this conversation again in 18months time Grin

The information I had after 3 attempts left me totally stumped for a while.
