Adopted my wordle rule No 1 for the fourth and it failed to pay off. Went for a very reasonable fifth, which could have just as easily been unreasonable and that did pay off. No scribbling required today, it all flowed rather pleasingly. Tomorrow will be wordle number 500 for me.

I do this most Saturdays and I live in an area that has mainly terraced streets. Although the start and finish point remain constant the route I take has many variations, it was on a lesser variation that took me along the lower part of Oak Street this morning. I frequently notice how many houses actually have the house number on them. I would estimate that around two thirds do and one third don't. Of the ones that do, most have the number on the actual door and fewer have it on the wall alongside the door. Today I saw something that stopped me in my tracks. The house number was on the door, at a very reasonable height (about eye level) but it was not central. It was about three quarters of the way across. Nothing wrong in this of course. It served its purpose perfectly, but I never realized before today that almost all house numbers are positioned centrally. I consider the fact that this had gone un-noticed by me for as long as it has very rum indeed.
