Cheers - i seem to be getting a real taste for this strength training.

I did stones for the first time a week last Sunday and the skin on my left forearm still hasnt grown back. Just a bloody, scabby mess.

Think i need some tubegrip, duck tape and tacky next time to save my skin. Maybe a but gay but think i need it while im getting used to the stones.

Yeah i think a few sessions with the stones and ill get the hang of it.

Cant wait to get my own to train with in the garden - then if i ever stop strongman training i can put it in the garden with plants round it.
Would make a nice feature Grin

What a s**t session ive had tonight. I left the gym so frustrated only to get home to an empty house and to make matters worse i forgot to take something out of the freezer for my dinner so have had ice cream for my tea.

Anyway, onto my training. Ive done chest tonight and not the best of sessions to be honest:

BB Bench Press
5x80kg
5x80kg
5x90kg
5x90kg
3x95kg
2x95kg

BB Decline Press
8x60kg
8x60kg
8x70kg
5x80kg
5x80kg

BB Incline Press
5x60kg
5x60kg
Then thought i would see if i could beat last weeks 11 Reps @ 70kgs

11x70kg (Same as last week - BuggerUnhappy )
12x60kgs

DB Pullovers
10x30kg
10x30kg
10x30kg

Elbow was starting to ache at this point so didnt go crazy on the weight.

Then finished off with a few sets of single arm pushdowns to work triceps.

Overall a fairly crap session in my mind - i think next week i am going to switch it round so i start with incline, flat bench and then decline. See if i can beat my previous 11 reps on 70kgs.

What is most frustrating is that i seem to be getting slight soreness from my elbows when i train chest even with vulkan elbow sleeves and apt wrist straps on.

Any suggestions or advice?

Well you could try rolling your triceps and forearms on a hard ball, the tissue in that area can get really tense so it can contribute to elbow problems. Make sure to do some tricep stretches too. A big thing for coping with elbow problems is icing them after every pressing workout, as soon as you can.

As Joni said though, if you're training for strongman I would consider cutting out a lot of your benching. I doubt you need the incline, decline, flat Muscletalk routine Wink

To be honest i was thinking of stopping benching - partly because it gives me elbow soreness and that i have read its pretty useless in strongman.

I seem to be alright on incline bench so i may still include that in my training as i quite enjoy it and one of the events in olympic dragon comp is incline bench.

Which brings me to my dilemma of chest because even though i am training for strongman i would still like to maintain some sort of decent physique. Will my chest still get a workout from other movements?

Also, i noticed from most peoples combined lifts they have pretty good benching. Why do so many people bench if its so useless?

i kinda like benching but didnt do it for probably 12 months and the strength was still there , i think you will keep great shape if you do a good veriety of training that doesnt involve flat benches , esp if they niggle yer elbows

On a session where i would normally train chest i would do flat bench, decline, incline and db pullovers.

If i just did incline and flat occasionally what else could i do on that session bearing in mind i already train deads, squats, shoulders on other days.

Should i do incline bench on my shoulders day and drop my training from 4 days to 3 days?

if you want to start training strongman, dont think your body as bodyparts - it just doesnt work that way.

Rather focus on lifts, and train all big lifts to cover all areas.

read different strongman logs to get an idea of a training split, JC, sparrow, mickashurst, willsan, tons of guys here.

Ill have a sca through them to get an idea. My plan is to gym train 3 days a week then go down to Olympic on a Sunday to do event training so dont want to feel beaten up when i get there.
