Thanks for the squat video Steven. I will definitely give it some thought.

Doing mobility exercises and a bit of stretching and stuff has definitely helped me with squatting to a certain extent after I first experienced lower back difficulties, but my suspicion is that the underlying problem is something nasty. I reckon I may have a bulging or prolapsed disc. I occasionally get the feeling of something bulging in the lower back on the right-hand side and the pain which is normally an aching/throbbing sensation stems from there. At the moment I also have fairly severe tightness all the way across the very bottom of the lower back. I thought it was the SI joint at one stage. Maybe it is.

If I find a few hundred spare, I will take myself for a scan/ MRI or whatever the technical term is.

When I was walking up the escalator yesterday, it was getting irritated by me raising my legs.

Cleans (60) 5, 5 (67.5) 5 - failed the fifth one at the 1st attempt then did it again, 5 hard, 5 better, 5 good (60) 5 good, 5 ok

First few sets were done with 30 seconds rest in-between

Pullups 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 - Surprised to manage this

E-Z Curls (30) 10, 10, 10, 10

This was quite a hard session. Lots of reps.

Bodyweight 94.0

I managed to go from 91.5 on sat evening to 94.0 on Sun evening due to 2 fairly heavy drinking sessions - hate drinking on a Sunday normally, but it had to be done - and all the dirty eating that followed.

Sumo deadlifts

(60) 15 ok
(80) 10 good
(100) 10 hard but v. good, 10 good

Enjoyed these and they didn't bother the back at all. Felt that I needed a week completely away from squatting. Lower back is feeling quite a bit better. I sat down in a squat/stretch position (holding onto the rack in front of me) before these and I was amazed to see how low I could 'squat'. I couldn't have done this a few weeks ago, even holding on to something.

Bench

(60) 8 v. good
(80) 11 - the plan was to get closer to twenty...., 8 good, 6, 6, 6, 4

Push-press (60) 5 hard, 5 v. hard, 5 good - If I go up to 62.5 on this next week, it will be a real stretch

Close-grip bench (60) 5 good (70) 4 ok (85) 3 good (105) FAIL - this was expected tbh. Last week's 102.5 was a PB

(65) 6 paused

Will change this exercise for military press from next week and go for a strict press PB - only about 65KG at the moment

Bodyweight 90.9 - down almost 4KG in just under 4 weeks

Squats (65) 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 5 - 30 seconds rest between each set

Bench (60) 7 good (80) 4 good (100) 1 easy (112.5) 1 ok (122.5) FAIL - this was expected (80) 12 - this was s**t

Push-press (62.5) 5 hard, 5 much better, 5 good

As my pressing strength is decreasing my push-press technique is improving and that is compensating for the reduction in strength and allowing me to increase the weights on this exercise.

Ate probably close to 1KG of pig at Bodeans last night plus 3 pints which probably didn't help the weight-loss

Military Press - this is now replacing close-grip bench on wednesdays for the next month or two

Today - Tues October 25th

Paused squats (60) 5 (70) 5, 5, 5, 5 (60) 5, 5 v. good - approx 30 seconds rest between each set

Bench (60) 8 good (80) 3 good (95) 3 good (105) 3 v. hard but good

Clean & Press/ Floor to overhead - max attempts (First time ever doing this) - previous PB 65 KG strict

(60) 1 easy (67.5) 1 easy PB!! (72.5) 1 V. Good! (75) close fail - attempted press twice & got it halfway up

Although these FTOH weights weren't heavy I was pretty pleased with these efforts, as I had never tried more than 65KG. The press on the 72.5 was easy, so was surprised not to get the 75. Was also quite worried about passing out and falling backwards, as wasn't able to do this in a rack due to the height of my rack.
