When I was a lad. I had a Honda Superdream for two years. Bikes are s**t and dangerous and most bikers (present compamy excepted of course) ride like t**ts. If you must persist in this foolishness - carry a donor card

Funnily enough I had a 250 Superdream for a couple of years. Then a CB500, which was a pretty decent "sensible" bike - my transport up until I needed a car for gigging.

I would only have a bike for city commuting or weekend fun now, and since I don't do a city commute (and do a suit-and-tie job anyway, which makes bikes rather less practical) and my daily drive car is a pretty good weekend toy, I can't see it happening .

cheers for the replies all, some solid advice there. I'll have a look at how the test works in England and France and see which one looks more reasonable.

I think getting something not too quick certainly sounds like a good plan, and to be honest I'm really not a thrill seeker, so I'm never going to be after the latest superbike.

the big end sized while i was in wales. came out of corner and it just all gave up, fortubatly didn lock up.
it took 30mins on the phone to the aa women about where i was as i cant speak or spell the welsh village names haha.

I've never ridden the Aprilla but asuming it was like the Cagiva, they were awesome little bikes...got mine up to 110mph heading downhill on the M5...sadly the engine started smoking and pretty much disintergrated!! (And i wonder why it didn't last!?)

mate had a cagiva. thing i ntoiced they had an even smaller power band than the rs125.
great little fun things, expecially when starting out. and still fast and so good on the corners.

That's very kind. But my real interest is in you hanging onto them for as long as you can. Be careful now.

i ride a GSXR 600, K5 model.....i got the bike i wanted and i passed my test a few weeks ago....though i will admit the insurance caused a bit of pain, the quote was a beast!

i have to agree about being a bit cramped/uncomfortable on long trips using a sports bike..........though i wanna get a gel seat to ease the arse discomfort

i rode from Stroud to Brighton, about 115 miles, the day after i did squats...this was not wise or smart! i got lost and ended up taking the scenic route, though pegging it down the M25 was a giggle

AFA the donor card thing....i agree with Pete, though car drivers tend to be f**ktards and not use their mirrors too well and live in their own little world....though with the can i have on the bike, and the jacket i tend to make 'em notice

the kit thing is a pain, but it is necessary, budget for the best you can afford

....though i disagree with c**tos on the hot thing......some of the leathers can be alright even in hot weather, though the man made materials will make you sweat like Fred West with a shovel when you wear them in the sunshine....so you'll prolly need two sets of kit, one for cold weather and one for hot....

Nico-as for a bike to ride for you, try the Harley XL883, that is a reasonable bike for a guy your height/size, fastish and alright to insure.....i tried my mate's and it is fun, just not my particular thing

I'd actually recommend man-made for normal day to day use.

I commuted into the centre of London every day for around four years and was able to use the same jacket (gore tex with kevlar inserts and zip out thermal lining) all year round without any problem.

i have a Richa jacket......it has a thermal lining and a waterproof lining.....and i am playing around with the combos of putting them together....it seems to work well for both hot and cold....though i have been looking at some leather kit, well trousers specifically as i am gonna start doing longer distances shortly...would like some better protection.

though from the folks i have spoken to who have owned bikes for a long time, they have said that leather tends to be better in the Summer, hence the two types of kit comment.

cheers Phil, that is a nice-looking bike, something like what I was imagining. Again, speed for me is pretty much irrelevant-I just want to enjoy cruising around I think.

i got a 8xl textile jacket for sale. lol

hated it and never wore it, t-shirt or hood for me.

I had a s**tty 600 Divvy and got pissed off rocking back and forth trying to make it go faster, so i wouldn't ever recommend on of them.
