I don't think it's anything to do with not breathing, he'd only started the lift about 3-seconds ago so he can't have run out of breath.

More likely that he just caught the bar badly on his carotid artery and cut off his blood supply to his brain.

As long as he's using full sized bumpers he'll be fine Grin

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say... If it's a weightlifter then is after a clean with the bar in the shoulders after he racks it well

Like the old man Si says it'll be the carotid artery or (I believe) the carotid nerve causing this

Usually a good cure for this is to put another ten kilos on the bar and get it over with

I reckon anyway

Looking at it properly it looks to be the case.

I did something similar with a front squat. 190kg and rolled back onto my throat. Was horrible.

Me too (not with 190kg though)

Apparently I looked like I was having a fit on the floor with my arm and legs jerking and flailing all over. All good fun! Grin

I did this with a strict press out of the rack and I'm still not really sure why I blacked out. It was a slow grinder and close to lockout my vision started to go and the music sounded all woozy. As I locked it I just managed to dump the bar in front of me, I woke up a few seconds late on top of it wondering why I was laying on the floor. I did hold my breath, but the entire thing only lasted about 5 - 6 seconds.
