Cheers jt! I'm really enjoying this work at the moment, I'm expecting a little disruption over Xmas so may even repeat it.

Evening session! To make up for a lack of food for the afternoon session I ate a fairly large cottage pie immediately before doing this Roll-Eyes

Row - 25 min UT2 set to Just Row

6240m, 2:00.8/500m, 20 S/M, HR 135

I knew I was going to get cut short but thought I might as well get some more m's in, felt pretty decent for it as well. brings weekly total up to 96,402m

Felt tired with just no energy today, I think last week is catching up with me! Decided about 5 minutes in to drop the HR a touch (not that I'd reached top end UT1 by that point), probably a good idea as it still felt like a long hard session. I'd have usually gone out for a run tonight while the kids are out boxing but took it off, hopefully back on form tomorrow nice and fresh Grin

Always good to listen and take appropriate action.

An open question, when training to a HR band I see you like to get in that band and then slow to stay in the band thus almost the whole session is in the correct HR

I sort of do the opposite and like to gradually build the pace to finish at the top of the HR

Which has the most benefit?

imagine not going out for a run ???

I would try for the constant HR over the steady build

Very good question jt and one I've thought about a bit, the answer is I don't know Grin

My thoughts on it though are the way I see it the objective of HR training isn't to try and cover the most distance, or go at the most efficient pace, but to have the heart working at a certain rate for most of the session. The best way to do that is to hit the HR early on and then keep it there. I have actually chilled out a little on this recently, I used to do the first 1k or so of a UT1 session at about 1:40 pace Eek I'll sit at about 1:45 or so now until I hit target HR and then drop the pace from there. This definitely has its downsides though, the most obvious is that it trains you to start out hard and then gradually ease off, pretty much the opposite of how you will be doing any max effort. The other downside is that I can find the initial sets on anything over UT1 (even UT1 on a bad day) to be very hard / unpleasant right from the start, although they do usually ease up a little later on.

I could easily be convinced to train either way, certainly most training sessions of other rowers I've seen do it the way you do it rather than the way I do.

Feeling a lot better today. Average pace on the UT2's is getting better with not as much of a slow down towards the end. I think my pain tolerance for the longer rows is getting a little better, although this was getting pretty bad on the backside for the last 15 minutes or so.

You will build pain tolerance in your arse, I'm sure. I know I did.

I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing though? Grin

Another tough one, I feel like the UT2 sessions are taking quite a lot out of me at the moment. I felt better than Monday, but not by much, rowing muscles just tired.

PM

Run - 30 minutes UT1 6k

Felt great Grin!

The first 3 weeks are tough, but not so tough to stop you doing a 6k run!

Thanks for pointing out week 21!!!!!!! Hopefully I will have nothing else to do that week.

6k run after all the rowing you've been doing??

Was it just to make sure you are getting enough cardio work in?

Feeling knackered when rowing but fresh when running Grin not surprising really as the longer distances and new tekkers are hitting the back legs and forearms pretty hard. Anyway, the alternative is sitting in the car for an hour while the kids train, so running it is!

Thursday 24/12/20

Row - 80 minutes UT2, 1k CD

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M HT
1:20:00 19,619m 2:02.3 191 957 20 134

1:20:00 2,402m 2:04.8 180 918 20 134

Time Meters Pace Watts Cal/Hr S/M HT
4:38.6 1,014m 2:17.3 135 764 20 122

Kept the overall 2:00 average until about 45 minutes and didn't slow quite as much at the end as I have been doing. Although I am enjoying the UT2's they are also quite mentally tough, about 45 minutes in the thought that I was only just half way through was quite hard to take Grin

I'm guessing it's going to be a day off tomorrow unless I manage an early evening drunken row, which is actually quite appealing now I think about it!

Ah another opportunity to talk about my "pissed up marathon"

Just make sure you don't go to fast too soon and have something handy to have a piss in

Thanks jt, had a great day today, but it didn't include rowing, too much to eat more than anything. It was meant to be 4x13 UT1, I may be able to catch the meters up before the end of Sunday Roll-Eyes
