It's probably been asked before but what do people think? Preferably people educated on the subject. From what iv seen thers 2 sides to the arguement; replenish glycogen and nutrients with a shake pwo vs the shake would stunt testosterone and growth hormone release which are more anabolic and more beneficial and nutrients can be replenished later when the rise in anabolic hormones slows down. Any info would be greatly appreciated! It's an interesting subject but hard to find reliable information

I would suggest its not that important most of the time. However there is certanly no harm in it.

I've heard that argument that it suppresses growth hormone straight away, it was from a George Farah seminar but I'm not sure how long your supposed to wait for before eating with that argument. I can't see the effect of the gh suppression being too drastic myself but I also don't think it's necessary to have a shake straight away as long as your getting a meal in fairly soon after training. I reckon have the shake Chris.

I read that as well but I've also read stuff which say's you can't really influence your natural GH production to any significant degree using dietary strategies.

I tend to just shower up, go home and have my meal.

I cannot see any minor acute hormone supression being a problem.

If you taking drugs its not a problem. If your not on gear your not going to manipulate hormones to make any difference anyway so youd have no need to worry.

And do you follow his advice?

I've never thought of you as a protein shake kind of guy for some reason.

I do.

I take CNP pro-recover and mix it with either plain water or sometimes, for a treat, coconut water. And it is a treat I can tell you.

Coconut water protein shake sounds divine. What flavour is your CNP?

It is. I wouldn't have believed the difference it made to the taste. Try it.

Any bar chocolate. I like vanilla and banana, but currently it's strawberry which is probably my favourite.

If you go into the training session without much food in your stomach, most likely it will be beneficial to your recovery if you have a shake after. So, if its been a few hours before you had your last meal, having something immediately after is a good idea, be it shake or whole food. If this was the case, you could also have the shake before you train if you can stomach it OK,the effect would largely be the same. Similarly, if you will be waiting quite a while before you eat a proper meal after training, again, it would probably be beneficial but maybe not a necessity.

Perhaps one situation where it would be most appropriate would be if you are training or competing multiple times per day, so liquid nutrients would be quick and easy to consume and absorb.

The main thing is to just ensure that your diet is providing sufficient total protein and calories for your goals and that you are eating regularly enough so that you eat somewhere in the time periods surrounding your training.

The idea that the fluctuations in hormones as a result of training largely driving adaptations to training are pretty much disregarded these days, seems like a range of factors lead to the body adapting to training.

i tend to have a mass gainer while training instead of water. purely because i am thirsty so it makes it an easy way to get the protein in. not really concerned about nutrient timing given how long it takes thre body to digest and utilize nutrients. it 's just and easy way for me to get cals in.
