knows some really strong guys Member 323, 1436 posts SQ 305, BP 200, DL 285790.0 kgs @ 105kgs Eq | Good news for strongman. If he puts his heart into strongman then he is more than a match for Big Z & Shaw. In the past he always looked like he was just messing about at the comps and not taking it that serious and if it's true that he hardly trained events and was still right in the mix just imagine what he'll do fully focused and training strongman 100%. Misha has got to be one of the most gifted strength athletes ever, who else could be world class at weightlifting, powerlifting, strongman maybe highland games if he tried it? Remember he also got cheated out of winning the arnold's I think 3 years ago? Due to dubious reffing on the dumbell?

Gone and easily forgotten....... Member 331, 22298 posts SQ 185, BP 100, DL 230515.0 kgs @ 85kgs UnEq | In the 69s, they have Oleg Chen and Lukanin medalling in Worlds/Euros this year. In the 85s, they have Apti Aukhadov at Euro and worlds this year, Aleksey Yufkin did well at the Euros, Lukanin wasn't at worlds. Rinat Kireyev came 4th at worlds this year. In the 94s, Alexandr Ivanov and Andrey Demanov. Ivanov world champ last year, Demanov a pretty consistent guy. 105s, Klokov Akkaev. Both locks for two of the places I'd think. Supers, they have that big fat geezer who's name escapes me at this time, came 5th at the worlds and seems to be the guy they send everywhere. Chigniz Mogushkov? Something like that. they have another guy who was getting 430-440 in smaller competitions and the russian nationals again who I can't remember his name, doubt he'd be an olympic candidate though. So looking at it, the supers would be way down the list of priorities for their team possibly, no Chigishev to bring home the bacon!

The Russians might not be the force they once were but they ain't bad and they are getting better. Just seem to be struggling to find a consistently good Super (Excepting Chigishev when fit).

I don't think David Bedzanyan (sp) is going to the Olympics as he is still a junior and hasn't really done any major senior international comps, or has he? In that comp he did 185/238 I think, and 190/240 the week before but that wasn't an international. What did Akkaev and Klokov do at worlds? 195/232 , 198/232?

Was only mentioning him to show the strength in depth the Russians have. Regardless of him being a junior if his snatch was up to scratch he would be a contender for an Olympic spot I'm sure.

Wasn't there some very dubious reps allowed on the dumbbell for Phil Pfister that split the points enough to put Poundstone ahead of Misha in the final standings. Very dodgy, you wouldn't get that sort of thing at the Olympics!!

Massive loss to the sport. He is the first lifter for generations that has the personality and charisma to become a globally recognised figure in the sport. In my opinion both the Russian Federation and the IWF have missed a huge opportunity to push the sport to the public at large. If Misha had gone to the Olympics and won (which was obviusly an outside chance) he could quite possibly have come out of the Games as one of the big names that people were talking about and done the sport a whole lot of good. I am unspeakably sad that it looks like he is going back to Strongman I think it is a massive waste of a great lifter, no disrespect. I hope he now closes the book on his weightlifting career and tears the arse out of the SM scene. Couldn't have put it any better, whilst strongman is an utterly brilliant sport, the history and the amount of time hes put into weightlifting and the potential he had it is very sad

I dont know what his chances wouldve been like of getting a gold medal but id imagine theyd be better than his chances of winning wsm.
