..even the vase is out of proportion. Nowadays people claim that all thee imperfections weere intentional but I call bulls**t. There are plenty of incredible works by the masters that s**t all over this impressionism s**t. Impressionism is just an excuse for having s**t brush skills.
Anyway, my vote for the greatest person whoever lived goes to Da Vinci. Now HE was talented.

Ita factum sit! But I also think that Ms Cole exemplifies the negative aspects of 'fame': would any amount of pecuniary reward compensate the lack of privacy and the endless scrutiny by an ill-informed public?

That's very true.
Those that say "money can't buy happiness" never had any

Did any of you watch the "Modern Masters" series on bbc a few weeks ago? That featured Warhol, Dali, Matisse and Picasso, It was a really good series that tracked the development of their work. I have to say I was least impressed by the Matisse work.

What would money permit you to do/obtain which would guarantee your happiness? Capitalist societies thrive on people's assumption that their life would somehow be more enjoyable if they just had more stuff, but does the evidence of the affluent west really provide compelling evidence that this is the case? NB: simply dismissing this question by a misguided (and inaccurate) accusation of socialist/communist ignorance will achieve nothing.

As mish said, this is (or was) a regular occurrence, especially for writers. To me this is what the expression "ahead of his time" means. Some artists (in different fields) correspond to the tastes and fashions of a different time. Not sure what I'd like to be famous for really. Becoming a celebrity either now or later isn't really on my to do list.

I cant say for sure that being rich would make me happy but I am 100% certain that being skint is currently f**king me right off!
In answer to the original question , I'd very much want to be recognised for being good at something. Being famous after my death wont get me into bed with Coleen Nolan...

Time.
Granted it can't buy you more time, but if you don't have to work to pay the bills you can spend the time that you would have spent working, doing something that makes you happy... i.e. lifting heavy stuff, spending time with your family etc.

To play Devils advocate - would given the above situation the time spent lifting or with family be appreciated as much as if you had to steal the time as and when you could?
