Smolov : Week 1 : Day 1

Early morning session at the Unit20 with Peter the bicep.

Stretch
Squat: 10xbar, 5x60kg, 4x9 87.5kg - third set was horrible with some grinder reps. Last set was comfy enough, felt like everything lined up nicely. Used a pair of ironworks for the first time, makes me taller.
Strict Press: 10xbar, 8x42.5kg, 5x45kg, 3x50kg, 5x52.5kg
Seated Reclining DB Press: 3x8 40lbs

just about recovered from the sickness earlier in the week, eating some yogurt now to resettle the delicate balance of bacteria in my stomach.

Good luck with Smolov mate! I'm almost at the end of week 2 now, it's damn tough going, but hopefully very rewarding!

What did you use as your 1 rep max for the purposes of the calculations?

Will do the first 3 weeks and see what happens, well thats the plan at the moment.

Used 122.5kg as a 1RM for the calculations, I did a 1RM of 125kg a month ago but it was terrible. Would rather start light and increase the weight if needed than fail reps.

Nice sunny day at the Unit20, not many folks training. No major DOMS from previous workout, little tightness in the glutes and quads.

Squats: 10xbar, 5x60kg, 2x80kg, 7x97.5kg (miss rack) 4x7 92.5kg - third set my legs started shaking. Last set was ok, but legs still shacking.
Strict Press Log: 10x35kg, 8x55kg, 4,3,5 60kg
CG Pullups: 3x5
Curls

Bench: 10xbar, 8x62.5kg, 5x67.5kg, 3x72.kg, 2+3 80kg
Kettlebell stuff

Hi Baldy, I have never tried to do smolov as such, but I did it for bench a while ago. It is known as Smolov junior I think, but it is basically the base cycle of Smolov. I didn't even go all the way through, but it got me up to a 130 bench even though eating/sleeping etc was less than perfect. I used a 110 max instead of 120.

Smolov looks like hell for squats, but if you judge your max well and stick with it, I can't see how it can fail to work. Enjoy.

Thanks, have accepted the fact I will have DOMS for three weeks solid. Eating and sleeping should be no problem at the moment, I am a lazy student on holiday.
