I'm not trying to be a dick or anything but why do the armed forces get a qualifying spot?

There are many guys (and gals) in the Armed forces that train and compete in strength sports. Unfortunately due to the fact that we serve all over the world, it is not always possible for us to get 'off duty' and attend these comps.

By holding an Armed forces qualifier, we get the official backing from hierachy and can therefore attend the comp, thus ensuring that we get maximum participation. Surely this will make for a better final with more competitors (all of whom will have qualified under the same rules and stipulations)

Also from the looks of things, we will have more competitors attending our comp than both regional qualifiers put together. Surely that answers your questions as to why we are allowed our own qualifier.

The organisers of the Britains also granted us permission for this.

Plenty of us miss comps due to work

Im gonna miss the northern qual because of when I booked a holiday

It doesn't matter how many competitors you have, its a closed comp dictated by profession for national open competition, how could that possibly make any sense.

Just because someone is the strongest butcher/baker/candlestick maker, does not mean in any way they are the strongest guy on their street.

I am baffled by this

I didn't think there was that much interest from the Armed Forces but fair enough if there is.

Surely if you are serving somewhere you wont be allowed back to do this competition in the UK whether it has the armed forces approval or not?

In any case, if it increases the competition and means a better standard of athlete can make it to the final then I can't really see a problem. Fair play.

EDIT: Except maybe Martins point above, but still I can't see the winners being off the standard of the rest of the qualifiers anyway.
