I fear that you are forcing me to scold you for being a pedant! You know full well that between the library deadlift and 'slamming the down', there are a vast number of other options - It's not an either/or situation. I would suggest that you always return the bar to the ground under control, but this can be done quickly, efficiently and most certainly does not involve any 'slamming'! I myself lower the bar quickly but under full control and let the plates grace the floor very gently - I'm a hook grip type of fellow and any 'slamming' of plates into the ground serves only to tear my thumbs up (this is particularly the case when repping). There is Sir, a very suitable middle ground to be found here and I suggest that you search for it.

It grieves me to pass some deadlifts, the rules say it must be lowered under control, and some just allow it to drop but without removing the hands, so to speak. If that is under control then I am a Dutchman, but it is accepted and I fume gently when I am forced to press the white switch. In Fat Pete's foolish black and white world, there are but two lowers. one is the library or attempted library and all others are slammed, admittedly some in very lacklustre fashion and some with vigour and gusto, but they are all slams in my book

Scold away Mr.M Should I ever gain an entry in Who's who, I will list my hobbies as Powerlifting, Cunnilingus and Pedantry. Throughout my school years I received many a beating for "misunderstanding" what was asked of me. For example - "Do you have the time?", "It's three o' clock" Punch to face. "I asked you if you had the time Boy, not what time it is" This has caused much confusion throughout my entire life as I tend to answer questions quite literally which is frequently not what the asker meant. This is a major cause of me being regarded a a rather foolish fellow. On the plus side, I can understand politicians very well.

Hyper obese Pete Member 70, 17897 posts SQ 322.5, BP 205, DL 300827.5 kgs @ 133kgs Eq | Friday, 27th January, start 16:00 Cold today, very cold. I shall train in a wooly hat. Squat, raw, sleeves on, no belt will be used tonight 20 x 5 20 x 5 20 x 5 20 x 5 20 x 5 60 x 5 100 x 3 120 x 3 140 x 3 140 x 3 140 x 3 140 x 3 140 x 3 All smooth and fluent and deep and best of all very enjoyable. The beltless factor made not a scrap of difference. Admittedly these are light weights but so far so good. Deadlift (now in pumps) 60 x 5 60 x 5 `00 x 3 120 x 3 140 x 3 160 x 3 160 x 3 160 x 3 160 x 3 160 x 3 Again, very smooth and huge fun. I have acquired a split in the palm of my hand, but gripping the bar tight and the weights being light enough to cause no slippage within the hand it caused no problem. But I did decide to forgo the the usual extra back stuff. One it will do no harm to omit it on general principles and two it will not trouble the hand. I expect them to return next week

They did feel better and better as we progressed today, but I was determined to stay in Tickover mode. Off then for a burger with Joseph, bought some bog rolls for the club on the walk back. Bought diesel on the drive home and arrived in time to switch on the football, and bugger me if there isn't a Wigan fan in the crowd with no shirt on ! Bare chested in this weather. What a wa**er, the more I know of football fans the more I am glad that I am not one. Squats tomorrow which is always a treat. Shirt on, of course.

Football fans are ok in the main nowadays, but Wigan do attract a larger proportion of idiots than most. Wigan is one of maybe 2 or 3 towns in England (I think Castleford is another) were football isn't the most popular sport in terms of participation or fan base, so those do follow it seem to be the real 'hardcore'.

Hyper obese Pete Member 70, 17897 posts SQ 322.5, BP 205, DL 300827.5 kgs @ 133kgs Eq | Post Edited: 30.01.2017 @ 21:28 PM by Fatpete Monday, 30th January, start 16:00Not so cold today, I arrive just after Big Phil, initially it is just me and him, some weightlifters and one more powerlifter arrived later Squat, very raw, sleevs on, boots on Approximately 1 minute long "sits on haunches" x 4 20 x 5 20 x 5 20 x 5 20 x 5 20 x 5 20 x 5 60 x 5 100 x 3 belt on 140 x 3 160 x 2 180 x 1 200 x 3 180 x 3 I have mentioned that I am experimenting with a slightly lower bar position, well on the 200s it was a shade too low. The first rep was ok but the sensation that something wasn't quite right distracted me and I paused it at the bottom, I didn't mean to, but I stood up well with it. I got my act together for the second and was rewarded with a lovely rep. Sadly the bar was slipping a touch on the third with made things a little awkward. All in all these were all deep enough for IPF comps and considering that I rather made a town halls of the first and last I stood up rather easily with all three. Which is a sight better than thwe last time I tried this weight. I supplemented the workout with another set at 180 as I wanted to get the bar position right and was rewarded with three good reps, the third one was such that Phil felt the need to comment "Could you put the thimble back on the platform please" This is a splendid reference to depth and Phil went on to describe it as the deepest squat he has ever seen me do. I seem to be more flexible in the hips, I can't be sure why but I plan to do some more of those initial "sits" Deadlift, very raw, now in pumps 60 x 5 60 x 5 100 x 3 140 x 3 160 x 3 160 x 3 160 x 3 160 x 3 160 x 3 Again Phil is waxing lyrical - "if Michelangelo had deadlifted and commemorated it in stone, that is exactly the start position he would have chosen" That will do for me. Enjoyed these immensely tonight. Hack squat 65 x 5 110 x 5 150 x 5 190 x 5 190 x 5 190 x 5 And that will do. Cheerfulness and enthusiasm have returned and whilst not breaking any pots I am having the time of my life
