For the first time in quite a while I have someone to squat with.

Squat, sleeves and boots on, no belt
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 5
100 x 5
115 x 5
125 x 5
135 x 5
145 x 5
All nice enough, I did contemplate doing a set or two more but decided against, I am considering varying my light weeks so that so comprise more sets than others, but that idea is still in its infancy.

Managed to have a conversation with the good doctor after I finished and before he started which is always a treat.

Home to find that many roads are closed around Tyldesley. I received a letter some days ago to say that the BBC were filming some foolishness in my street. It implied that they were in my street and nowhere else. What we did not realize was that many streets had similar letters implying the same thing. Result, they are all over the f**kin' place. Ah well, at least I got home without difficulty

Eventful trip to the club today, my usual route was closed due to an accident of some sort, but there is a plan B route which it transpired was also closed for repairs so route C it was, a horrible, meandering which served to remind me why it is, and will remain the third option.

Anywho

Bench
20 x 5
20 x 5
20 x 5
30 x 5
40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
65 x 5
70 x 5
70 x 5
70 x 5
Hush, hush whisper who dares but things do seem to be on the up, the weight, although piss poor is slowly creeping up and the shoulder is aching less. Let's hope it continues

Pulley rows
No 17 x 10
No 18 x 10
No 19 x 10
No 20 x 10
No 21 x 10

Pulley shrugs
No 21 x 10
No 22 x 10
No 23 x 10
No 24 x 10
No 25 x 10

Buoyed by the bench press I got medieval on the pulley's ass tonight and while nothing to write home about there was nothing to cause any concern either. Full house tonight, one of our younger, female weightlifters hit four new PBs tonight. Impressive to watch, I'm very glad I was there to see it.

Good morning Pete (and Rick),

"I also need to make a decision about the future of refereeing but seem to be constantly distracted by all manner of s**te. If I were a popular referee I would be tempted to give up, but as I am not and retiring may be a popular move I am tempted to carry on."

What's happening in the NW chaps? Two years ago you were second in size only to YNE. Today the NW has the smallest membership in British Powerlifting!

I cannot comment on the membership as I have been locked away, like the rest of us, for the last sixteen months. However my only contact is through facebook and DrRick. Covid severed my connexion with Rick almost completely until very recently and facebook was noticeable for how little information there was on there. If there is somewhere else to go, I don't know of it. I had assumed that my membership would be frozen last March and thawed out again round about now. It was only an email requesting availability to referee that prompted the question "Am I still a member ?"

I, of course assumed I was only to find out that I wasn't, I was six month in arrears. I will proabably renew when I get around to it but won't referee again until ALL restrictions are lifted.

I would assume that this may account for the drop in numbers, many will assume thay are still members and many may hold off until 2022 and then join again.

The people who run the NW are wonderful people who I am honoured to call my friends and I make no complaint whatsoever about them. National level however is a different matter so I will say no more about that.

We are short of referees, not those who pass their tests but those who will turn up when requested. This means that the ones who do referee intensly for a whole morning or a whole afternoon. Any breaks we get are taken up with queueing for a piss and we tend to miss out on any food that is going as we are welded to the chair. A spare referee or two or three would make a massive difference to this but we never seem to manage that. Whilst half a dozen or so people are grateful for my efforts, no-one else is or they are very good at hiding it.

I am acutely aware that walking away would only exacerbate matters for people I love, so it is unlikely I will do this. But I would be a better referee if I did it because I wanted to more than my concern for letting others down.

Thank you for asking. You are a good man Mr F and I don't care who knows it

Mixed messages on the TV this morning, one saying "freedom day" is madness will kill thousands and be a disaster and another lockdown is just months away. The other says that with two thirds double jabbed we are safer than we have ever been and we should rejoice that it is almost over. Doubtless the truth is somewhere in the middle - but where ??

Quite busy tonight and as previously mentioned very hot. The forecast is for glorious weather for about the next week or so. In keeping with the rest of the country I am never happy abput the weather, always too something - hot, cold, wet, dry, windy etc etc, today I shall exercise my right to complain about the heat :-). Commencing Monday the gym is about to have its outside painted. At least the weather should work out well enough for that

It's in the mid-20's! I wish it were that cool over here. No fans/air-con in your gym?

Nope, two windows in the North wall that open and a fire door in the West wall that also opens. That's our lot. To be honest I don't find actually training in heat that much harder, it is just more of an effort to start and much less of one to stop.

Ridiculously hot today, high twenties or thereabouts, wandered off to the chippy for dinner, for the last time this month as they close for holidays from today, so I may have to change chippy to Friday evening for a couple of weeks. Anyhow it's hot, too hot to go out, so I'm in, doors and windows closed to keep the beasties out, blinds drawn and I get to slump and practise gasping

No need to venture out today. So I can stay in and hide from the sun. The couch beckons

Very hot again. I still walk slowly out to the fried chicken shop and home again. The couch beckons again and possibly the golf highlights should not prove too taxing. Work tomorrow followed by squats, now that will be fun

Gentle readers with long memories may recall that I hd the stopwatch on my phone continually running. Earlier tonight I noticed that it was on 3332:59:00.00 so I waited a minute and watched it flip over to 3333:00:00:00 and decided that enough was enough.

It was zeroed and we shall have to wait and see how long that lasts
