| Joe was a bloody nuisance, he was always full of mischief and I always likened him to having a naughty kid in the room when he was around. I don't think he had a bad bone in his body, it truly saddens me that we have lost him. He was genuinely one of the good guys and I will miss him. God bless you Joe x | |||

Wiganers are known as "Pie eaters" and their return phrase for the people of Leigh is "Lobby gobblers". I have done both :-) Wiganers appear proud of the “Pie Eaters” label, however, the origin of it is probably unknown to most. At some point in the past both the Leigh and Wigan Coal Miners went out on strike, eventually the Wigan miners broke the strike and went back to work; and as a result were forced to eat humble pie. This is where the Pie Eaters label came from, so originally a slur rather than a statement of pie eating pride | |||
