1st April 2013

Another disappointing bench session
Paused Bench:
bar x 8
40 x 8
60 x 8
80 x 3
90 x 3
102.5 x 3 to commands
115 x 1, 2nd with spotter. to commands
supposed to be 115 x 3 today. 2nd fail on this set.

I think I am going to stop pressing for 6 days and start from 105 x 5 on monday. I've been skipping the deload part of 531 for a while so my slight injuries and this fail indicates to me I should be taking a rest.

If I want that divisional record in November I will have to add 15kg to my max in 7 months. Thats assuming I can do 120, which I've done twice, and could be closer to 122.5~125 on a good day.

Deadlift:
70 x 8
110 x 5
140 x 3
152.5 x 3 x 3 sets

Pullups:
bw x 5 x 3 sets

I believe what you are describing is butter with pancakes, not pancakes with butter. Which makes it good.

Thanks! I have only done grip training once, I did some static holds on 50kg dumbbells and loaded barbell. After that session I sacked it off and havent had grip issues since!

29th March 2013

Did deadlifts first today to train with a partner.

Deadlift:
All with sbd sleeves on. Felt a lot better with these.
70 x 8
110 x 5
140 x 5
165 x 3 DOH pb i think
grip strength is back!
belt on, mixed grip
185 x 3 Happy All felt fast and better than last weeks 182.5's.

Paused bench:
bar x 8
40 x 8
60 x 5
80 x 3
90 x 3 x 3 sets. speedy but last rep was off form and really slow

Pullups:
bw x 5,5,4

Thats good. I want to go private but as a student I don't think its financially viable Roll-Eyes

Knee surgery for a torn meniscus which turned into a patella and medial femur work over because my surgeon through I'd need it doing in the next 10 years or so anyway (I had no symptoms from my femur or patella I might add)
Followed by me rushing my recovery means that my left knee is still a bit fooked and sounds like a ratchet every time I use it (the main reason I use knee sleeves is to dampen the noise a little Grin)

That sounds nasty, way worse than mine. Were you private or nhs? How long was the wait for surgery

This stance also reduces the stress on my bad knee - If I squat narrower in a heel then I have to ice my knee for two days afterwards!
Regarding depth, it's all down to hip mobility really - I always end up squatting lower in competition as I have 7 days off heavy lifting leading up to a comp but keep up with my mobility work.
The result is I naturally open my hips up more and so squat a bit deeper without any sacrifice in form

What is your knee injury specifically?

My hips make nice clunking sounds during my mobility routine

Interesting you say this. I'm considering trying the Macca stance/depth combo in my own squats.

I am doing it because I have knee tendons made of glass and somehow this stance works for them. I also think that going atg in this kind of stance is near impossible

Very nice squatting. I have recently started using a style similar to yours so this is something to look up to

Has anyone tried liquid chalk?

I use the liquid stuff from myprotein, I find the alcohol dries my hands out nicely and the chalk dries quickly, you dont need much and the bottle has lasted me almost a year I think. cheap for £6 or whatever I paid for it
