It shifts you forward a bit and gets the quads involved more, if I'm not mistaken, but I can't say I've seen a huge difference. You get a higher heel, but a solid and stable surface to push on. Some may say they're not ideal for deadlifting, but Oly lifters can still shift massive amounts of weight, so it's worth trying out if you're looking to change things. What weaknesses are you trying to fix? | ||

Member 3942, 1107 posts SQ 200, BP 160, DL 315675.0 kgs @ 102kgs UnEq | I find I can get into a much better starting position, but fall forward when I get the weight off the floor due to the raised heels so I usually just wear converse or take my shoes off. However, plenty of olympic lifters shift a hellish amount of weight off the floor wearing them, with some adjustments to your standard technique in flat soled shoes, you'd be able to pull quite comfortably in them. You'll probably end up "squatting" the weight up, much like Igor here, and Misha does a similar technique. | ||

Uk limbo dancing champion Member 2666, 6551 posts SQ 202, BP 170, DL 255627.0 kgs @ 88kgs UnEq | i have been deadlifting in oly shoes for about 4-5 months now. i feel stronger off the floor but lockout is a bit harder. deadlift is about as strong, maybe feels a bit better in shoes im slow off the floor normally n dont use much legs and didnt have a problem with lockout so theyve worked better for me. doesnt sound like they'll help u much if u hitch at lockout tho. to the post about squatting the weight up i dont think thats true for most ppl, but a few lifters do pull that way, mostly oly lifters from what i gather it carries over into WL more. my hips still sit quite high | ||

If I find that my start position is a shade too high I will switch to boots so as to get my arse lower, if in the boots my arse becomes too low I will switch back to slippers to raise it a little. Start position is very important, use whichever footwear enables to you to get the best one. | ||

Sports an extremely muscular arse. Member 38, 6253 posts | I think the potential to tip you forward is far too dangerous, could easily knacker your hamstring out if you fall out of position at the sticking point. I wouldn't do it. | ||
