You need to be a member of BWLA to lift in a BWLA competition.

My understanding is that most BWLA competitions are unable to have non-BWLA guest lifters, for insurance reasons (basically the public liability insurance only covers members).

A 'guest' is a BWLA member from another division. However I'm going to raise the question of who do new members pay their money to, and for how long, given that GBPF takes over on 1 January 2009. I hope to lift in this one, subject to shoulder rehab.

So how did that work at the Nationals in June then?

I don't think anyone lifted who wasn't a signed up BWLA member. But not all BWLA members were eligible to win British titles for nationality reasons. But my original post was re guests at divisionals.

Ah, ok.

All sounds a tad confusing. Moral of the story is I'm quite short.

We have a few new lifters who are wnating to do either the bench, the NW champs or both. I will be seeing Arthur Hoey next week, and I intend to ask if it is possible for any new lifters to subscribe to the new organisation so that their subscription will run through the remainder of this year as well as all of the next.

It dosn't matter Tom. Registering to BWLA now will make no difference to being a member of GBPF in jan. If BWLA were still doing powerlifting you'd have to re-new your membership anyway. Its a mute point. It sounds like it will be a good comp.
