GOALS - get stronger/better and beat good names eventually

all my videos are on the "ainsygray" utube channel please subscribe www.youtube.com/user/ainsygray?feature=mhee

best event performances to date

deadlift -
great harwood 2013 open comp -
IFSA log c & p -
axle c & p-
farmers-

comp history -

Mo power local comp-1st place won two events placed 2nd on two, no pressing events: D-pound to power comp.

Bolton novice comp-placed joint 4th/5 only 3 events and deadlift too light made mistakes on 2, can’t judge who's the best strongman on 3 events.

Cheshire novice comp 28th august at Cheshire farm open weight 2011- PLACED 8/19 cocked up on a few events and placed in top 3 on 2 events deadlift & carry max distance found some weaknesses to work on.

uk strongman north novice- 13th may 2012 placed 11th out of 16, took just over two weeks before comp-went into it having only been training for a clean and press comp the week after, hit some pb’s in log and deadlift and stones so come away better than before, did this comp during in a bulking phase after illness + 13kg bodyweight after losing 8kg in 2wk so cardio wasn't their.

Crewe comp -15th July 2012 entered 24hrs before comp in the heavier weight class , placed 4th/6 , 300 deadlift pb 3rd place lol/fast truck pull/fast farmer+yoke medley-- overhead medley did poor on & loading +drag event took it steady as was goosed good bit of experience gained with previous poor events improved significantly, coming away with pb's again

only the strongest survive -2nd September, 2nd out of 5 best showing , pressing let me down as im on a long term plan that won’t yield much short term success ,still preferring to put all my pressing energy into strict press and cgbp, double decker truck pull was snappy the second go fell and still won it, Conan wheel was too light for me did 6 & a bit revolutions but was out of gas winner went last and did a couple steps more, medley was 1sec behind a phenomenal medley winner, did 5 reps on a 135kg stone large diameter so happy to have built competition stamina at last

great harwood- 27th may , 6 out of 12 , open class step up in overall weights
planned to be consistent throughout, grip and fitness was a strength, with a bit more luck on 1 event especially would have been top 5 , plenty pb's training for it as well and plenty more their to hit.

Bolton strongest man-27th July- 3rd place open class , 4 events dropped major points on 1st event press medley was well off form on overheads in the build up, performed well in the other 3 events but wasn't 100% ,at 100% would have done a lot better.

place of training-SV GYM owned by Bolton strongest man 2011 & 2012 Shane burns see sv Facebook page for any gym info, just off the top of lever street, 1st session is always free to try out the facilities, has rare strongman equipment such as conans / Viking press / fingal finger / anvils / 2 wide & long outside runs for outside event training

stones loading

1st time lifting stones, used spider tacky, worked well was quite easy to get off using baby oil and a card and cloth.

110kg 10 reps total, found I couldnt do it with a belt as I have a very thick strengthshop belt, was too restrictive. height approx 5ft 5inch, arms bruised up will attempt to make sleeves.

just did a bit of pump workout today, mainly for the wrists. crappy home workout

morning.

db hammer curls-just up to 27kg for 3 x10reps each--all I can fit on these with the plates Ive got.
barbell karlsen upright row-60kg 3 x10 reps easy explosive reps
under over-axle technique clean to chest 60kg x 5 sets 1 clean and press-wrist feeling ok.
heavy grip 200 -50 reps total 25 each hand

wrist was only slightly stiff feel on the overhead, but the bar is very thin, a thick bar feels easier to press with for the wrist, main issue before was cleaning felt sore on the wrist.

just now-heavy grip 200-1 set alternating reps around 40 reps total grip seems to adapt to the weight after a few goes, will be taking these to the comp to get the wrist warm and grip ready to go. grip feels much better and better, speed of right hand is close to the left now, with a tiny bit of discomfort when the grip is closed on the right wrist. nothing 3 days wont heal.

‎cheshire novice write up.

8th out of 19, had a shocking 1st event coming 18th on the truck pull, had wrong shoes need climbing shoes for traction, also rained making it even more slippy on the tarmac and really needed to practise the event really energy was gone 2/3rds of the distance, form went as well, just as you hit 2/3rd distance you hit the incline, training for this was not a option due to wrist issue and two week notice, couldnt risk injury.

stones, got a big chunk of mud on my arms after the second rep on atlas stones but managed 4 reps after taking 20 secs to re-tack one of guys replacing stones just slam dunked the stone in the soil, rained a lot on the field very muddy finished mid field, if the stone was clean 6+ was easily on the cards, probably need to tape the arms as the top guys seemed to all use it.

axel deadlift was best event coming 2nd or 3rd with 4 reps, believe it was 8 inch and 240kg-245kg got a crazy nose bleed on the 3rd rep wiped it and got 1 more after 15 sec rest timed it perfect, nose exploded after 4th rep, blood all over the face looked like Hannibal lector in silence of the lambs, their weights were off on the overhead below so believe the weight was much higher than the 230kg exclaimed as showed by lack of reps from the majority of the field.

overhead axle they said it was 100kg it wasn’t, a lot of guys failed, we all guessed it was 110kg-115kg, could of got a rep had I knowed it was heavier before hand, waist height I determined very fast it was far heavier switching to belt clean but wasted energy messing with a technique suited for a lighter weight but nearly got it.

tractor plow grab and hold for distance-got second or third I think, could of gone bit longer bit was starting to black out and wrist wasn’t up to going to failure with a predominant grip event left took the smart option, distance of next guy wasnt attainable and had done enough to beat the guy below him.

was one of the last two people to go, field was a mess even slippier than before, messed up the duck walk, went too fast hurtled forward over implement cost energy and time, 1st time doing this so wasn’t too bad, tire drag, wrong footwear should of bought and brought football trainers, couldn’t grip on wet muddy grass slipping so reverted to a upright row/face pull technique took a lot more time and s**t lot more energy, got to farmers very thick handle was gone, farmers 100kg each hand estimation, did 6 metres ran out of time, finished just over half way up field, thickest farmer handle I have seen, grip on right hand probably wouldnt of lasted the length at this time.

positives to come from this, two week notice took comp so did my best with wrist issue from Bolton training due to pressing being painfull as fook, buy and bring necessary equipment & train all event well enough, was definitely one of the youngest if not the youngest, some 20st + ers as well, good group of guys from Sheffield and local, with correct footwear and few truck pull session and a thick farmer walk practise I would have finished 4th or better. great experience glad to have turned a bad start around.

thanks, would have done much better with just 3 week event training at 100%, but couldnt turn down some vital competition experience.

only been doing the log for about 10 wk having got it from 76kg at the start -96kg nearly 100kg soon,

technique is getting better than it was, but still not great, shoulders were a bit ginger from 310kg yoke the day before so was a bit stiff tried to loosen them up.

also did some lay db tricep extensions two at once double tricep curl-havent a clue what they are called-15kg db's 3 sets 8-12 reps.

rope core planks, good core exercise, 3 sets 10 reps.

20 minute fast walk .

did 260kg 12" deadlift today -

130kg each hand hold for time-

decided I will do 240kg 12" pulls for reps & 130kg each hand farmers for 20 metres, grip looks to be good enough will walk with them in a few days.

101kg log from today, 101kg log clean and press PR , form was ok, not good by a long shot, backfoot wasnt as straight as it should be and front foot was too slow to go a touch more forward and more front knee bend providing a quicker lockout and stronger base.

2nd session with the 310kg yoke, changed the setting so that the yoke was higher off the ground when walking, balance was a issue not the sheer weight this time, will get the balance better next session by trying a diffrent bar position putting it lower on the traps.
