A big thanks to everyone for making the day a success. It was a long old day and we did the best we could with the number of helpers we had. We thought the comp was run fairly smoothly but as ever we could have done with at least another half a dozen loaders and helpers. As it stands, a special thank you must be given to Ross Stone, Dale Norris and Project Goliath who were all instrumental in the running of the comp. Also a very big thank you must go to the staff of Fitness First who supported us in every way they could throughout the day.

We managed to raise approximately £2100 so that was a fantastic achievement in itself, and I would like to think that the competitors enjoyed the day albeit a long one at that. I have done the scores for the 105s and the Novice will follow as soon as possible.

A huge congratulations to all 105 competitors as it was a hard fought comp and there was a fantastic demonstration of strength by all concerned. Well done to the top 3 and we look forward to them representing us at the Britain's and UK's later this year. A special congratulations to Simon Thomas who was on excellent form yesterday and deserved the win in every respect. Well done mate.

The Novice scores will follow as soon as possible gents. Thanks again to all concerned.

Big thanks to Ross and Rob for a very well run comp yesterday.

This was my first comp, placed 10th in the novices. Pretty happy with this as i only managed 4-5 training sessions (bloody chest infections)since Christmas.

Will look for another Novice comp now, sort out my training and diet and get back to it.

I was very impressed with the guys in the novices, could not get over how strong and conditioned some of them were.

Finaly special thanks to Ross Stone and chris jenkins who I have trained with the most and a massive well done to Simon. The fact you one the last event as well was awsome.

Better to crash and burn than fade away.

I had a warm fuzzy feeling inside when I seen you had turned up to compete mate. Fair play, you have been very ill and you did fantastic. I think you would have been a factor in the 105's if you had a good run up. Well Done Nick mate, took a lot of guts just to turn up and compete. Mind over matter Happy

Wales' Strongest Man 2011 - U105kg.

Turned up for the comp' with no expectations as i'd had a bad cold all week and was still suffering a bit.
Weighed in at 104.2kg with jeans and t-shirt on.

Medley - 120kg farmers x 10m, 120kg keg x 10m, 300kg sled x 10m

Went in the third pairing for this and didn't really know what was a good time, all the implements felt good, finished in 26s.

First Place. (first ever event win - PB)

105kg Log Clean and Press for reps in 75s

I'd done 5 reps in training and as i was in the last pairing i'd seen 2 guys get 7 and i knew 6 would get me into 3rd. Managed to grind out 6 reps, PB.
Third Place

Overall first place

18" 240kg Axle DL for reps in 75s

I knew this would be my worst event and as i was in the last pairing again i had an advantage of seeing what i needed to get, i'd done 10 in training, but needed at least 12 to score 2 points. Got 13 reps, PB.
Joint 6th

Overall third place.

300kg Yoke x 20m

I knew this would by my strongest event as i'd done it in 11s in training.
Didn't bother checking other times just went for it. 12secs.
First Place.

Overall first by half a point.

Atlas Stones - 80/105/115/135 to 54", 155 to 48"

Another strong event for me as i'd done heavier runs in training, all to 54" and the last stone was to a lower platform which helped. Was going last in this and watched the 3 below me nail all five stones, so i knew that i had to get all 5 to qualify for britains, get all 5 fast and i'd be the champion.
Now i've never been so focused or psyched up for anything like i was for this last event, they called me up and i went for it. 5 stones in 18secs. BANG!
First Place

Overall - FIRST PLACE

Brilliant, still smiling, to acheive this in my first year of strongman is unbelievable. To do it in front of family and friends is even better.

I've got to say a big THANKS, to Ross Stone for all his help and advice in training down the yard, all the lads that train down there (a great bunch), to Rob for putting on such a good comp' .

It was good to see you competing yesterday and you'd definitely have been up there with the rest of us 105s if you'd had a good run up to the comp'.
Get down the yard Sunday to start all over again. Happy
