As mentioned in the Forum, we are starting to plan the Welsh 105kg qualifier for BSM and run a First Timers/Novice comp alongside this. In order to capitalise on an competition such as this and to take advantage of a potential money raising event, we would like to be putting this comp on in aid of Cancer Research Wales. In doing so, we would hope that all entry fees will go straight to the designated charity and in addition, if each competitor could raise - in sponsorship - just £10, we could have raised over £600 before a charity bucket has travelled through the crowd for the umpteenth time! The figure of £10 is just potential minimum amount that each competitor could obtain in sponsorship, but please, please get as much sponsorship as you can as it will be going to a very worthy cause. On a personal note, I lost my father to cancer last November aged 61 and have been thinking about putting on a Strongman comp to raise money in his memory and to move us all one tiny step closer to finding a cure for an illness that effects so many of us.

We’d like to start a list of competitors to start the ball rolling as it were. So we’ll leave it up to you to add to this thread expressing interest and your name will be added to either category you specify.

Again, not wishing to be discriminatory, we would like to draw as many strong, powerful and enthusiastic Welshmen out of the woodwork as possible before places are offered to our neighbouring countrymen. In order to increase the number of competitive strongment in Wales, this simply must be the first step and is not intended to offend or discriminate.

There isn't a huge number of good training facilities open to joe public in south Wales - at least, not to my knowledge. I would say that Peak Physique, (just off Newport Road in Cardiff), is probably one of the, if not the best equipped gyms in Wales when it comes to bodybuilding, strength conditioning, powerlifting and strongman. They offer an extensive range of equipment catering for all needs, shapes and sizes and they have an outdoor compound, where you can get a feel for a good range of strongman equipment.

Alternatively, there are a number of Welsh competitors - myself included - that train at independent venues and own their own substantial range of strongman kit. I train in North Cardiff and this is what I have to train with...

7 Atlas Stones - 80, 105, 115, 135, 155, 175 & 200kg
2 Logs - 1 Trainer Log Starting @ 50 & 1 Comp Log Starting @ 75kg
Super Yoke - Up to 500kg+
Farmers Walk - Starting @ 42.5kg each hand
3 Sand Sacks - 50, 80 & 110kg
2 Kegs - 90 & 110kg
Inch Dumbell - 65kg
Tyre - 300kg (approx.)
Sledge - Up to 400kg+
Axle - Starting @ 45kg
Duck Walk - Up to 250kg+
Truck Pull Harness
Squat Stand
Various Bars
Approximately 500kg in Steel Plates

I do occasionally add to the kit but I’m running out of room! If you are interested in arranging a train with me, I train on Sundays and I will PM you my address.

There are other fellow competitors with similar venues and kit and I’m sure that they would also be happy to accommodate a new member of the, (hopefully growing), Welsh strongman community.

This comp is going to be great because for strongman in wales giving the 105s a comp local for them (not in england) and a first timers/novice a chance to have a go.

I'd have though that seen as though you've won the Southern Englands you'd have burnt your Welsh bridges?

No probs mate, as long as the organisers are OK about it.

Just wasn't sure on the rules regarding competing for different countries. I wasn't allowed to compete in Scottish 105s as I don't live there. Even though I'm half Scott on my mums side.
