Hi I am currently into powerlifting lifting in the yorkshire and north east division but would like to have a go at strong man comps,
I am currently at a body weight of 115kg but alot of the comps listed seem to be 105kg or under, or am i just reading it wrong. If not and welcome i might give the first timers comp a go.Confused

Although you are technically a first timer do you not think it would be a bit light for you

not sure mate not that good on the shoulder events my best in the gym is only 100kg for three (power cleans) im not to bad at the deads and never tried any of the other events. I live in a place called ashington about tenty miles north of newcastle and no strongman gyms around.

nothing to do with me but have to agree here mate. your 3 numbers will be way higher than your usual first timer strongman and it is a light comp.

my squat and deadlift total is unequipped but my bench is equipped

Well the unit is 100 miles north but I know there's places closer to Newcastle thanthat. If I remember correctly in the articles section there is a list of gyms around the country. Have a look.

Also Viking press is easier than a bar so 110 for you should be easy. My best oh is 105 and I've got 130/4 or maybe more on the one at the unit
bigtrev
you obviously train there. been on the website seems a really good setup. trying to get our gym to purchase gear but there not budging.do you reckon a novicecomp might be better
Avatarmartinb
the first timers would be pretty light for you, novice or maybe an inter like the one at Bernard castle, which isnt far from you
Avatardrew
Probably but it's brains and nicks call they might be happy

Either way you'd need to practice at least once. Yoke and stone aren't things I'd want to go all out without a play first. Yoke cause I imagine it'll be horrible and stone cause you might rip something off
bigtrev
i probably me pants. cheers for your input mate. im off to train now lol

Hi is this comp still happening I heard your gym had closed down? I wouldnt mind entering if its still going ahead. I've been to Unit 20 last year to see my mate compete in a novice comp. I've been training once a month at OSG in Manchester (would train more but I live in Hull and thats the nearest place I know of!). Think ad do alright on everything apart from the stones that I still need more practice on.

I believe it is but it's Brian (buzz) or nick (nick79) you need to speak too. You could pm them. Brian is more active on the site so probably easier to find

As for hull, congrats. I'm a withernsea lad but now live in Edinburgh. Where coypu train rest of the month. Trained at bOdy world the last time I was back and went to the gym. Was alright. The owner used to powerlift

Won't be at the unit, but the comp's still happening. The main thread for it is here - http://www.sugdenbarbell.co.uk/forum/Unit-20-First-Timers-Comp...

Maybe mods can lock this thread, or scrap it?
