either Im a penis or Im not a penis Member 722, 2977 posts SQ 300, BP 220, DL 350870.0 kgs @ 123kgs UnEq | Make friends with a farmer. I buy a pig, lamb or half a cow at a time. He butchers it for me to, just have to freeze it. Last time I brought half a pig it cost £50 and lasted for ages. Just look on internet for receipes for weird cuts like shoulder and belly but you only pay a set price per kilo, where in a supermarket youi pay more per kilo for popular cuts. One of the supermarkets always has offers on tins of tuna to

Member 616, 8404 posts SQ 180, BP 130, DL 220530.0 kgs @ 78.8kgs UnEq | Post Edited: 06.01.2010 @ 21:36 PM by drew I like my food so I'm a bit of an oddunI'm in the odd cut camp. beef pork lamb rabbit venison game birds and out else that walks or flys But I don't buy s**t chicken as it seems to be full of water. So I buy whole free range chickens and get a few meals out of em. Plus stock best bits for eating are the cheep bits anyway, shin belly tail cheeks neck all awesome my 2 fav cheap and tasty meals are 1. Belly port confit in goose fat in the oven with sage for 4 hours then press it over night to flatten it. Fry it in a pan to reheat and you get some stonking crackling too. Use goose fat then for roasties 2 brawn. Get a whole pigs head and 4 trotter. Quarter the head. Boil with herbs and root veg for 3 hours. Pick and dice (that's everything, brain tounge cheek etc). Mix with chopped parsley. Press into terrine and pour over a little cooking liqour. The trotters will make it set like a jelly. Cool slice serve with bread if I had a big freezer I'd just buy half an animal too

And why is your butcher funny about selly off-cuts?

a large fingered spastic that demolishes plant Member 89, 31706 posts SQ 260, BP 220, DL 290770.0 kgs @ 142kgs UnEq | I get steak, tuna, and hicken from makro in Aberdeen. Ideally 10kg of chicken and steak and I get 5 lots of tuna tins, if I got the same from tesco it would be far more expensive.
