So i took ill on sunday afternoon, and spent a good chunk of yesterday throwing up at work. As such i didnt train yesterday, and wasnt expecting much from todays pressing.

7/7

Close grip bench press

120 * 5,
122.5 * 5, 5, 5,
130 * 5 - final rep paused.

Incline press

100 * 5,
107.5 * 5, 5, 5, 5.

Slight incline alternate db press

30 * 6,
35 * 6,
40 * 6,
45 * 6.

Dips

6, 6, 12.

Surprisingly strong session considering.

The plan is to get some truck pull practice in tonight, and then a brief squat session before physio tomorrow to make up for the session i missed last night.

EDIT

7/7 Session 2

9660kg double decker bus pulls

With a tailwind

25m, 25m.

Into a headwind

Two complete failures,
2 or 3m.

Fairly strong wind tonight, which meant the first two runs were shockingly easy.
Turned the bus around which meant pulling into a headwind and completely failed to get it started. By this point a small crowd had arrived and the pressure was on as i strapped in for my 3rd at final attempt.
Managed to get the big f**ker moving, but hit an uphill and stopped very abruptly.

I was suffering from fairly bad chest cramps at this point and running out of oxygen so decided to call it a day.

Got home and jumped on the scales to learn that my two days of illness have cost me a stone of bodyweight and i am currently sub 20st. Fortunately im confident i can get my weight back up towards the 21st barrier by the end of the week.

Ive also been invited to do the elite englands final in a couple of weeks. The events are fairly different to what ive been training, but im not sure i can say no to a national final in my first year of competing.

Beltless speed squats

185 * 2, 2, 2.

Beltless squats

205 * 2,
215 * 2,
225 * 4 - pb?

Only a very brief session today, 30mins from getting to car park to leaving. Stomach is still a bit tender, so didnt want to risk anything too heavy or squeeze into my belt.
Squats felt good and quick.

Deadlift triples and front squats tomorrow.

1 clean strict log

70 * 3, 3,
90 * 1, 1.

Log press

90 * 1, 1,
100 * 1.

Tough day today, tough week in general. Glad its done with. Dropped the volume for tomorrows session as well, and then a day off on Saturday to go watch Europes.

Paused squats

205 * 3, 3, 3.

Sldl

210 * 3,
220 * 3, 3.

Yoke

160 * 10m, 10m,
210 * 10m,
260 * 10m, 10m,
sleeves on
300 * 10m.

Lying single leg curls

45 * 12,
55 * 12,
65 * 6.

Seated calf raises

40 * 10, 20, 20.

Toe presses

160 * 20, 20, 20.

Leg presses

160 * 12, 12, 12.

Much better session today, though stuck with my reduced volume plan, hence 3 work sets instead of 5.
Yoke felt very good, tried out some new footwear and really liked it. Even the 300 moved well, despite my training yoke being a very rickety piece of kit.

Looking forward to a rest day tomorrow, and then one more week of heavy training bbefore deloading for elite Englands.

Strict press

90 * 3, 3, 3, 3, 3.

Push press

110 * 1,
115 * 1,
120 * 1, 1,
120 * 3 - sleeveless PB.

Pendlay rows

135 * 5, 5, 5, 5, 5.

Tyre flips

350 * 2 a minute, every minute, for 10 minutes,
350 * 8.

Cracking session today, just what i needed to get me fired up for the last weeks training before Elite Englands.
Stricts were almost laughably easy.
Push presses felt easy, at least 1 more in the tank on the final set.
Rows were solid.
Tyre flipping was great. Finally nailed a few 1 motions in the sets of 2, and then strung 4 back to back at the start of the final set.

Squat and speed yoke tomorrow night.

Squats

225 * 3, 3,
235 * 2,
245 * 2,
255 * 3 - PB

Yoke

210 * 10m,
260 * 10m, every minute for 5 minutes.

Another good session tonight. The squat pb was a plus, previous best without wraps was a 250 triple. Definitely still had more in the tank.
Yoke was a bit rushed due to the threat of imminent rain, so strung my 5 working runs back to back. First was a little wobbly, 2 - 4 were all solid runs, and 5 was a bit tricky as the damn had destroyed my chalk so the yoke wanted to escape down my back.

Pressing tomorrow.

Coc 2.0

2 sets standard grip,
2 sets reverse grip.

1 clean strict log

90 * 5,
95 * 3,
100 * 2.

1 clean log press

100 * 5,
110 * 2, 1.

Incline press

100 * 2,
110 * 2,
115 * 2,
120 * 2,
125 * 2.

Close grip bench

120 * 5, 5, 5, 5, 5.

Tricep pushdowns

Tricep pulldowns.

Solid pressing session tonight, though my thighs and knees were aching considerably.
Pushed log a little harder and glad to see there were no real issues. My training log is by far the worst log ive ever used, so if i can shift the weights on that i should have no major trouble with the log events in my next two comps.
Incline was solid and close grip was a late addition due to getting through everything else with some time to spare.

Ready for my rest day tomorrow and then deadlifts and front squats on thursday.

Deadlifts

250 * 2,
270 * 2,
290 * 2 - utterly beautiful.
300 * 2,
310 * 2.

Front squats

170 * 2, 2 - really ugly.
170 * 2, 2 - slightly better.
170 * 2 - just about respectable.

Mixed session tonight, though equalling my deadlift pb double after some fairly heavy working sets means it has to go down as a good session really.
Pulls were all solid, though the last set felt heavy, probably good for about 4 reps at this weight if i attacked it fresh.
Really want to do a max deadlift, confident theres at least a 340 there, but none of my comps have one so i just cant justify it.
Front squats were awful, my hips were brutalised from deads and energy just wasnt there.

Primarily grip work on the cards tomorrow.

Machine rear delt flyes

Tricep pulldowns

Tricep pushdowns

Db tricep extension

10 * 12,
12.5 * 10.

Solid pressing session today, definitely the best my overhead has felt since the injury. Probably had another couple of reps on the final set of strict presses, and maybe even more than that if i had my wraps and sleeves on.
Push presses were solid, wouldve liked more on the final set, but was fairly fatigued by the time i got there so couldn't go as hard as i would like. Will do 10 reps on that weight next month.

Yesterday saw me up my kcals for the first time in a while, cant seem to breech 21st and thats no good. The change is a real simple one, im adding in a bottle of gold top milk a day, 800 calories and no hassle. Plan is fairly fluid, but basic idea is half a bottle with breakfast and half a bottle with my post workout feed.

Paused squats and back work on the agenda for tomorrow.

Final heavy leg session before comp, and had a good one. Feeling strong.

350kg Tyre flip

3 @ min for 5 mins,
One motions
2, 2, 3.

Wide grip pulldowns

DB rows

Alternate db curl

Db preacher curl

A very solid final session before comp.
Rows felt strong.
The low rep tyre flip sets were just to practice starting on command, all reps single motioned. Confident i can string a good few reps together like that on comp day.
Accessory work was just to get a pump.

Just resting now till sunday. Its a little longer than i would usually take off pre contest, but that cant be help.

26/7 - Elite Englands strongest man

320 deadlift for reps

I was second out on this event and didnt really know what to expect from most of the guys.
I pulled 2 fairly comfortably, then faffed about before trying the 3rd and didnt get close, should have gone for it straight away and it would likely have went. This ended up costing me a few pts as a couple of guys tied on 3 reps.
4th place.

400kg yoke

First out on this one and determined not to make the same mistake as i did on deadlift and take my foot of the gas early.
Went all out on this and managed a huge pb with a distance of 24m.
A lot of guys struggled and most only made it to the turn @15m, so as it happens i could have eased off a bit earlier.
3rd place.

400kg tyre for 8 flips

I was feeling sore after yoke but felt confident about this one. Boy was i wrong.
my flips were all fast, but i took too long setting up between each rep and it cost me a lot of time.
5th place.

Max log

125 - faffed the clean, twice. Got it third time and the press was a piece of piss.
135 - very close, but not quite.
A lot of guys struggled here and even the great Matt Heyes took 2 goes to get it. Set up wasnt ideal and the wind didnt help. I think only 3 guys got the 135.
Joint 4th place.

This had me in 5th place overall going into the last event, half a point off qualifying.

150kg atlas stone over yoke

Due to an episode of great stupidity i didnt check where the organisers had set up the stone until it was on my chest at which point i realised i was a good 2 feet back from the yoke. Carried it in and tried to reload it but id eened up in an awful position and realised it wasnt going to go. Dumped it and started again. Got 2 fairly easy reps, which i was happy enough with but disappointed to have missed the 1st by such a daft oversight.
Fortunately a lot of guys struggled due to the awkward shape of the stone, and the guy in 4th didnt get a rep so i knew id qualified.
3rd place.

Overall 4th place. A few pts ahead of 5th but a long way short of 3rd (which id held after the first 2 events). Losing points on log and tyre cost me a lot. The tyre is particularly worrying as its in my next comp in 2 weeks so i need to work on getting down quicker between reps.
Secured an invite to the Elite Britains in September for a chance to qualify for the Arnolds so even if some events could have been better im definitely happy enough with the result.

28/7 - happy birthday to me.

Bench press

90 * 10,
100 * 8,
110 * 5,
120 * 3,
125 * 2.

Incline press

70 * 10,
80 * 8,
90 * 5,
100 * 3,
110 * 2.

Cgbp

90 * 10,
100 * 8,
110 * 5.

Tricep pushdowns

20, 12, 12.

Tricep pulldowns

20, 12, 12.

Db hammer curls

10 * 15,
12.5 * 15,
15 * 15.

First session back and the plan was just to hit some reps and the get the blood pumping.
First time doing conventional grip bench for a while, been doing only close grip since the shoulder injury.
All pressing felt surprisingly strong.

Rest day tomorrow, then speed deads and hamstrings on thurs.
