Hello sugdeners..I've started overhead stuff recently and have made progress however this log press is well bloody hard work and i seemed to have stalled slightl, anyway I wanted to know what rep ranges you work with and sets...I've been doing 5s for five sets sometimes I'll stick a single in there sometimes, also I do bench press before log,as I'm thinking of comp in April and I'm pretty sure bp is not going to be included should I just drop bench? And also breathing is real hard.so any advice from you guys would be much appreciated thank you.

Well I'm not a top guy but had the pleasure to train with one for a few months. I saw some incredible lifts on log amongst other things. The way we trained log was on a 3 week rotation, week 1 was 3x8, wk2 3x5 and wk3 was 3x3. Then back to the start with additional weight. During 2 cycles of this I added 20kg to my log max, even thought it's still low. My training partner went from a fast 175 to a 180 log triple with lots to spare

My advice would be

Stick with bench
Strict press everything on the log for a while, until you get closer to comp then add in push press.
Push press on a bar focussing on loads of leg drive.
Press multiple times a week.
With the breathing thing heavy cleans for reps should fix it or something my mate suggested to me was cleaning a rep and holding it on the chest for a while before pressing to get you used to pressing under fatigue.

My 0.02p although whoever is tripling a 180 log is probably a good person to follow. Who is that?

That's chris gearing mate. And almost everything else you said was how we were training. Always strict pressing log on that routine, and pressing more than once a week. For me personally I founf floor presses really helped my log, but that may well be an individual thing

First rep was off the floor, other 2 reps off chest. Either way the guys static strength when I started training with him was almost scary

id do log 1st then bench afterwards. if u do 2 pressing sessions a week id do 1 strict and the other push press. if possible both on log for more practice.

Any tips on belt position? I was using it high for pressing from the rack, but it interferes with my clean with the log. Also is hang clean or power clean straight from floor to shoulders better for log?

some guys power clean it oly style but i reckon its much better to sit into the clean, watch hiixys vids and copy him oh and you want your belt low

Looks like one breath then clean then another breath and press, if you do it all on one breath you're gonna have to be fast!
