4/10 - GBPF British Classic

Got down Friday night and had my usual steak and 2 Guiness. Had a little bit of breakfast and weighed in at 81.15. Suprised how quickly the weight dropped off me but this is a small step in the right direction. Next comp aim for 82+.

Warmed up squat and all felt good

Attempt 1 - 180 comp PB, good lift, felt quite heavy actually but bar speed was good.
Attempt 2 - 190 PB, good lift, lost tightness at the bottom and had to mong it up.
Bit of coaching from Duncan and Scott Bradwell in the warm up room.
Attempt 3 - 195 PB, good lift, far better squat, never in doubt.

Bench

Decided to open light, take smaller jumps and generally look at building the total rather than trying for a big PB

Attempt 1 - 120, good lift, fast
Attempt 2 - 130, good lift, no worries
Attempt 3 - 135. good lift, slow but a bit more there.

Deadlift

Warm up felt very good. God help me I do love to deadlift

Attempt 1 - 235, good lift, flew
Attempt 2 - 250, good lift, best 250 I have ever pulled.
Attempt 3 - 255. no lift, I thought this wasnt there but looking back at the vid I may have talked myself out of it as I was already content. Might have ground it had I have wanted it more.

The venue was brilliant and the comp was really well run.

Thanks to Duncan for his constant support

Also thanks to Tim for squat coaching and Paul Bimrose, John Askey, Scott Bradwell and anyone else who contributed their wisdom during my transition to low bar. Its going very well and there is still more to come.

Thanks to Milsy and Jordan Eastwood for helping transform how I bench. Feels a lot more solid and again there is more to come.

Plan going forward looks like this

Day 1 - Squat 5x5, Bench
Day 2 - Deadlift 5x5
Day 3 - Squat 5x singles, Bench, assistance
Day 4 - Deadlift 5x singles, Bench, assistance.

this should take me up to the end of the year.

8/10

First session back

Stretching

Deadlift
60 x 4
60 x 4
60 x 4
60 x 4
100 x 4
120 x 4
140 x 4
160 x 4
170 x 5
170 x 5
170 x 5
170 x 5
170 x 5

Weight was fine but conditioning is way off. Puffing and panting getting through these. May have to think about ways to improve conditioning.

Bench
60 x 3
60 x 3
60 x 3
80 x 3
100 x 5 (5 second pause on last rep)
100 x 5 (5 second pause on last rep)
100 x 5 (5 second pause on last rep)

All fine.

Wide Grip Low Pulley Rows

Precribed by Dr D (get it) to help shoulder retraction for bench and should help rehab a slight rhomboid niggle.
Light wieght, all reps very strict with a slight pause at the end.

30 x 5
30 x 5
30 x 5
30 x 5
30 x 5

Soundtrack Winterfylleth They have a new album. It is excellent as you would expect.

Really need to look at ways to get the conditioning up in order to kick in some volume work.

My house moving weekend went resonably well. Not properly unpacked and in a fair bit of chaos and so living mostly off oats and whey protein but actually managed to keep the workouts something like and got the kettle installed so all is good.

10/9

Training with Big Jordan, Little Jordan and Nemisis Ben

Back felt delicate. Plenty of stretching and rolling.

Squat
bar x 3
60 x 3
100 x 1
120 x 1
140 x 1
160 x 1
175 x 1
175 x 1
175 x 1
175 x 1

Didnt feel at all good. Back holding me back i think.

Paused Front Squat
60 x 3
60 x 3
60 x 3

Bench
60 x 3
60 x 3
80 x 3

You call that a pause (all reps paused for a slow 5 count)
100 x 1
110 x 1
120 x 1
130 x 1 (this was the mostly grindy bench rep I have ever seen, let alone been invovled in. Stopped several times and must have taken almost 10 seconds to lock out)

Leg Extensions
70 x 10
70 x 10
70 x 10

I may have tried to pick up on the heavy stuff a bit soon after coming back from comp so its reps for a couple of weeks at least now. Another error is that I dont think my training partners warm up as thouroughly as I would like to. I have been keeping to their routine but I think I shall have to grab another rack or simply keep stripping the weight in order to get all my warm ups in.

In other news big Jordan, at 20 years old and 105kg. Put up a remarkably fast 240 squat and 160 bench. Training towards his first comp in November, the lad is going to be a great great lifter.

Went hope and was asleep by 9. That bench rep really took it out of me.

Moving house, moving various heavy/awkward shaped objects into vans and up stairs. The dodgey back didnt like it at first but quickly warmed to the task. I think my theory of more warm ups and more rep work makes sense.
