Didn't think that was too close an attempt - fingers crossed for him though.

In hindsight it might not have been quite that close but I liked it!

Great end to the competition here. Some great lifting, good fight in all 3 dudes.

Would be really good to see 3 champions from the tiny Oceania islands.

Itte hits 221 CJ to take first, 3 lifts left, 1 for him, 2 for George.

Ah I wanted Naaru to win but this guy was awesome, especially considering his age (which you couldn't tell by the way he moves) and his absolutely f**ked elbows. Very composed!

Great competition!

What a great last shoot out for gold. 229 is a great final lift, and a 6kg PB

an 8kg increase on the Games record. Awesome! And at his age it gives me hope!!! (it doesn't really as I'm still older than him Roll-Eyes )

What a fantastic Commonwealth Games Weightlifting Champs

Enjoyed everything I seen .. Love the state of English weightlifting ..

Most of the men's team will be back in four years to dominate in my opinion ..

As for Shaun . First games would he of won a medal even if he hit six lifts ? No I don't think so . So was fantastic experience for him and I'm sure nobody learnt more than him from this one ..

Shaun trains hard and if he sorts out his life outside of the gym he could be immense . Only he can do that .

MrSmall said:On replay it does look like it, but f**k, who knows. Jury's decision is final like in any sport. Onwards!

Statement of the motherf**king year that Smallsy ..

The statement you're looking for is Referee's decision is final ! They red lighted it mate ..

What sort of stupid assed sport has a jury ? Bulls**t ones !

Refs in lifting are crusty old c**ts who want to make a name for spotting infringements other refs didn't see and rarely use common sense.

I'm ill with silly ref decisions ruining this sport .. Does hitting your elbow on your knee give advantage ? NO .

I wish lifting would go 2000 instead of 1900

Whilst I agree a knee touch doesn't give you an advantage I'm interested in how you think it is ruining the sport since it is at best useless and worst potentially dangerous.

I think Mark was referring more to lifts that would look good lifts to Joe Public being red lighted for technicalalities, or lifts being passed and then ruled out by the Jury.

In this day and age sport is as much an entertainment as pure sport, and if weightlifting is to gain real mainstream popularity then this sort of things needs addressing or the 'uneducated' spectator just won't buy in to it, and the sport will remain niche.

I see what you are saying, although I must disagree to an extent - most of the "Joe Public" I know only understand the sport through what the commentators are saying and they are generally pretty clear on explaining the various rules and technicalities. I would say they are certainly more understandable than the various rules of many more widely-spectated sports - the old saw of explaining the off-side rule comes to mind.

Also, one could say that the overturned decisions by the Jury are actually a good thing - many sports now use the idea of the video official and that seems to be quite widely accepted by the viewing public.
