Lol. Like I said though, six years on, I'm a bit embarrassed by the whole thing. I don't know what's the worst:

> my hair
> my 'powerbelly'
> my 'theatrics' after the final rep
> the touch-and-go aspect of the reps
> the 'averageness' of the overall 'achievement'

Embarassed

I had a 'bit of a go' at deadlifting 200 kg for 20 reps this morning. I managed 15. And, yes, I re-chalked a few times (just in case one or two people get upset that I 'lost contact' with the bar).

200 x 20, as long as the last few reps are 'rest-pause', should be very achievable by the end of the month.

I thought that I'd do a bit more training for the '200 x 20' deadlift. I got 16 reps with 205 kg this morning. I managed it about 10 seconds quicker than my '200 x 15' from 48 hours ago

I deadlifted 200 kg for 20 reps this morning - admittedly with a 'soft' lockout on rep 1. I'm sure that there are other issues that some of you might criticise but I'm quite pleased.

Monday 18/11

Squats

Warmups then...
160 kg x 3
160 kg x 3
160 kg x 3

Front Squats

125 kg x 3
125 kg x 3
125 kg x 3

Wednesday 20/11

Deadlifts

Warmups then...
220 kg x 10
Rested for 30 seconds
220 kg x 2
Rested for 30 seconds
220 kg x 2
Rested for 30 seconds
220 kg x 1

Split Jerks

Warmups then...
100 kg x 1
105 kg x 1
110 kg x 1
115 kg x f - my right calf was cramping quite badly but I'd probably have failed the lift anyway.

I'm looking to deadlift 220 kg for 20 before the end of the year. With the reps being 'high', I'll give myself a three-minute time limit.

Monday 25/11

The same session as last Monday. I'll increase the load, on my squats, in the new year.

Wednesday 27/11

Deadlifts

Not worth mentioning. I felt weak today.

Jerks

s**t. Today's session was probably even less impressive than the crap one from a fortnight ago. Worst of all, I've no idea why.

Friday 29/11

I squeezed in a quick session this morning.

Deadlifts

Worked up to 222.5 kg x 10 - I wasn't feeling particularly strong but managed to force out the intended 10 reps. There were a few pauses; particularly before the last rep.

I then did 'some' overhead work but had to leave earlier than I'd have liked.

More great pulling - they must think you're a deadlift beast at that place?

Do you it find it easier when repping to keep hold of the bar, and keep some tension at the bottom of the lift, to help with the next rep?

Thanks, Jonny. I was actually a bit disappointed as I did last week's 220 x 10 in less than 70 seconds. The extra 2.5 kg shouldn't have slowed me down as much as it did. A few people at the gym have complimented me on my deadlift but my normal response is "thanks but I'm planning on improving it considerably".

I think that I know what you're asking. I tend not to keep hold of the bar for two reasons - maybe neither are very good ones - I like to adjust my grip at the start of each rep and because the last few centimetres of the eccentric phase aren't that easy I've concluded that I might as well drop the bar before resetting for the next rep.

So, I guess that I'm losing the stretch reflex by deadlifting in my current style?

Yeah that's what I meant. Even when paused for a second or two on the floor, they definitely feel much more comfortable this way. Then again, I'm hardly a deadlift rep beast like you...
