Presumably next months lift of the month is the clean given your practicing?

I think the assistance people do is interesting, e.g. my current deadlift improvements (i.e. the 240 lift of the month, done at the FARM in competition) was down to hip thrusts, good mornings and upper back work.

Although I agree if someones idea of assistance is curls thats pretty useless and boring.

I must bring to your attention the "Lift of the month" rules:
No 2: All lifts must be achieved at the farm on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday evening between 5 & 7pm and the lifter must have paid to train.
No 7: Without exception, Finch is ALWAYS right.
No 11: Cheating by claiming lifts not achieved during the allocated sessions will result in a 50kg deduction.
No 11a: Complaining about a 50kg reduction will result in a 50kg bonus for all other lifters.

Pick up 240 on Friday and there will be no problem! James tried several times yesterday to beat your 225 but failed them all miserably.Tongue

Lmao your such a dick sometimes Ian, its a legitimate lift, done in competition at OUR gym. I want to see a copy of these rules.

In any case, your outvoted, Kev, Pete, and Stewart all think it should count, as its the lift of the month, done at our club, and ref'ed for good measure.

I'm not going to attempt 240 tomorrow though I don't think, competition next week.

You can be boss next year if you like, then you can put all those bizarre lifts in.

I don't get why you wont let it go? So if me or James come in and hitch up 250 or 230 respectively, that counts.

But a lift done at our clubs annual competition that's refereed by 3 qualified people doesn't count?

There isn't a lot of logic there.

I wouldn't change the competition I think its good, however I would have both the squat and the deadlift be able to be done on the platform, for one then there is a definitive answer whether its a good lift, rather than you judging from 100 yards away Happy

Very hot & sticky at the Farm and only 7 lifters! Weighed in at 112.3Kg.

Just to prove that Monday night was a bad night.

I hate these, the pull starts from just below my knees and I cannot seem to find the right place to stand in relation to the bar. If i'm honest I think that i would rather pull from the floor where I can exert a lot of leg drive. Must persist though!

No problems.

Another fairly quiet night at the Farm. Danny & Son, Shane, Dave & Apprentice, Big Dave & Gordon, Me, Forklift, Stewart, Big James and new Mark. I reckon that's 12! Weighed in at 112.55Kg.

Squats. Sat back onto a box just below level and paused.

Cleans are the Farm's lift of the month for September. Stewart started on 100, Kevin managed 70 and Big James put up 86, not bad for the first day! I expected Dave to put up a big number but he spent the session getting his apprentice to film him posing!!!Confused Eek

Very quiet at the Farm, just Sharn & Mark, me, Stewart, Big Dave and Forklift on the weights. Weighed in at 112.15Kg.

Best this year, my 86Kg PB is in sight!!!

Monday 9th September.

The students are back and the new crop of Saints academy lads were in, i'm not that impressed... Weighed in at 112.75Kg (heavy weekend). Deadlifts with big James and benching with the group.

Back to basics with the deadlift, i'll get back into the tried and tested Finch program in a couple of weeks so until then i'll take deadlifts easy and work on form (Arse down, back straight, drive with legs).

Easy session, no problems.

Assistance is only crappy if your doing the wrong stuff, pick a weakness and plan it round that, maybe go in cycles, i.e. couple months focus hard on your shoulder problem with lots of back work to balance the strength, then couple months on hamstrings/hip strength for deadlift?

Hopefully the finch program gets your deadlift back to where it was though.

Ian - you're doing assistance work? This is the first time I've ever seen you doing any! Is this just for assistance for the big three lifts, or is it also for health (just a bit more volume in your sessions)

really enjoyed the deadlift session tonight. think your system would work to get me to 230kg???? if so could you help me work out my deadlift sessions. liked the volume you do!

Agreed those academy lads were not up to normal standards, and the strength and conditioning coach isn't a great example of strength and conditioning.
