Marius certainly wasnt weak. In 2003 (IIRC) they had a log medley in the final, with the last log being 165......he pressed that like an absolute peanut

If Marius was about today he'd be logging 200 IMO

Ed is very poor (at the world level and compared to his static strength) at moving events. He has been around for several years, he either never trains events (which is pretty bloody stupid as he has known he would be at wsm all year) or he is probably just never gonna be that good at them

He had deadlifted 400kg (with a big ol hitch) and was amongst the top guys in squat/deadlift events. Yeah he did that 165 log at the end of a medley that only Z and Karlsen did I believe.

And lets not forget WSM 2009 when Shaw, Z, prime Poundstone et al were in the game and the events suddenly got much heavier than before, he still came second only for a second or two in the stones. That performance is why I think he would be well in the mix these days and still kicking absolute ass in some events. Sure, everyone else has progressed since then, but so would he have, it works both ways. Around same build as Lalas, and a much better mover (unless Lalas is really awesome which I don't remember that being mentioned anywhere?), why wouldn't he be able to up his static game and be slaying all kinds of dragons?

Everyone goes on about his "weak" pressing....FFS only Z got more reps than him on the axle in 2009 lol

I think people who assume that Pudz automatically wouldn't be in the mix for the title these days are simply forgetting just how good he was at EVERYTHING

Absolutely

Pudz was an oh and deadlift repping machine, because thats what you needed to be to win wsm, but when a max dead event came up he pulled 400.

Strongmen are a product of the events they are asked to do.
In the 90s that meant relatively light, mobile, good endurance.
In the 2000s that meant fast as f**k and good at repping
Now it (lalas being the exception) means being f**king huge and having huge 1rms

Ahola had a best log around 175, but look at what he had to log to win wsm. Something tells me if he was doing comps every week that all had max log in them his max would have been much higher
