Ursus can put more weight overhead than Shaw, I think he should be WSM instead. He is prettier aswell.

You can't even bench 500lbs yet... your opinion counts for nothingTongue

If you ever used creatine before you'd know it's normal to lose about 2kg of water and a little bit of top end power while off it.

To me as a fan he is the greatest strength athlete of all time , there is no one to compare him to . But i am biased as he is my hero .

At the end of the day its not something to argue over , it is something to enjoy and discuss but big props to Brian Shaw as he was unbeatable on his day and that shouldnt be taken away from him or forgotten.

kirkynick said:General WSM question here:

Do you think the WSM guys of today are significantly stronger than the guys in the first WSMs?

For example, in the 1979 WSM there were three men who benched over 600lbs and two who deadlifted 400kgs or more in official powerlifting comps.

Are the big log lifts today more to do with specificity of training rather than massive increases in strength?

Good questions , mate !
To me it's more about specific training nowadays . Have in mind that most of top log presser don't even bench press ...Z , Mike Jenkins . In the past strongmen were more powerlifters , so they started powerlifting and then in strongman . But today we have guys who weight 400 pounds , better nutrition , more knoweledge of training and recovery .... evolution in the sport . As far as genetics ... Kazmaier , Arcidi ...those were guys blessed with natural power . Kaz of today would probably be Z's level ! Watch Kaz squating and benching in 1980 ... incredible , not that big but super strong ! This is genetic component , that most of the guys today don't have it . Just better nutrition and knowledge .

No, just different. Hard to compare like 4 like as the enviromental factors impact on genetics. All things being equal, they would all be champions today as they were then and viceaverca. We are all a product of our enviroment.
