When it comes to fish, budget and protein you have a couple of options:

If budget is not a question, then simply fresh fish all day.

If budget is an issue, which it is as the price is astronomical, then you can choose cheap tins of tune (not good quality protein at all) or frozen fish which is alot better quality than cheap tuna.

Also frozen chicken breasts are a good alternative if budget is tight to.

To ensure you are getting the most protein with each meal take Leucine with it to ensure maximal absorption. It not always about increasing the amount you eat to get more, but how you can get the most out of what you are eating.

Nice post there Luke.

I eat fish every day in at least 2 meals. I find its better for my training. With my back issues I have also added krill oil to my supplements and it has been a very good addition as I feel so much better and my back knees elbows shoulder are feeling good. Worth an investment TBH.

A nice meal is
Fresh mackerel done in oat meal and oven cooked along with some roast parsnips is good. I take this too work with me sometimes.

Yeah, Island life has its perks interms of food. In winter I can pick up whole lambs for £15 each, have a freezer full of haddock, cod, halibut and monkfish all of which were free, and can get as much salmon as I can face.

I freeze a lot of fish, and if frozen fresh and thawed it is better than stuff that has been transported fresh for long distances imo. Interestingly some of the fish sold "fresh" in supermarkets has been frozen, trasported and then thawed for sale, so is effictively the same stuff at a higher price.

One downside to frozen fish is that it weighs a lot more, so you think you are getting a kg, but when you thaw it you are gettting a fair bit less as it retains a lot of water in the freezing process. If you thaw your own fish it is worth pressing some of the moisture out on a paper towel before frying

Rick said:Plaice isn't as cheap as I remembered - maybe it was on special for a few weeks or something, or maybe I'm just an idiot. About £10/kg as opposed to 9 for fresh haddock, 17 for cod loin.

I need a recipe for fresh haddock, I guess.

Everything you can do with a cod you can do with a haddock. I actually think haddock is a much nicer fish than cod, and much less likely to have worms etc

I tend to either deep fry in batter, or shallow fry in breadcrumbs with home made tatrare sauce. Great in fish pie too. Haddock is also excellent smoked

I am the worlds worst golfer so not best placed to answer that. There are a few courses, weather makes them challenging i guess, but a lot of people play. Its aparrently pretty cheap.

Summer weather can be pretty unpredictable, lovely place when the sun is out (like today) but can be pretty miserable a lot of the year sadly.

Not only does Neil live on an island in the middle of the North Sea which is in its self very far seperated from civilisation, he lives in what even locals on the island would call the middle of nowhere

By going to the website of the worlds least helpful airline www.flybe.com and selecting Sumburgh as the destination.

Flight from Aberdeen is an Hour, its an hour and a half from Edinburgh or Glasgow.

The other option is an overnight Ferry from Aberdeen which takes 12 and a half hours, ot 14 and a half if it stops in Orkney. It is operated as northlink by the abomination that is Serco

Do airports not in Scotland allow you to travel there?

Birmingham, Leeds, East Mid, Manchester, Southampton and possibly a few more have conncetions, but will involve a change of plane, normally in Aberdeen. No direct flights from England. There used to be from London by a Faroese company, but not anymore.

You can fly here from Bergen in Norway if that helps? Happy

Why is tinned tuna a bad source of protein ?
