I might try some if I am in London. I can't say which stall as I don't know, but you can contact the ones on that list. If you're in London, give me a shout as I might have some squirrel or wood pigeon that you'd enjoy. Locally sourced A rabbit could only set you back £3 or so, depending on where you get them from. London butchers tend to charge £5 in poncy areas. I did get a whole bunch of exotic meats (zebra included) for £20, plus £8 postage. Christmas pressie from the gf. 2 kangaroo steaks, 2 zebra burgers, 2 kudu burgers, 2 something else burgers, 6 springbok sausages and 4 oversized wild boar and apple sausages. Not the most economical of foods, but certainly not grossly overpriced. www.alternativemeats.co.uk They may have access to horse, their customer service is excellent so worth phoning.

Thats value! When I was a kid my mother would always buy pig and lamb a half-beast at a time - as you say, some jointed, some taken further (though not minced as we had or own mincing machine for that). Big chest freezer always full of meat. Did she get the offal too? Some great eating inside a lamb.

Not necessarily, as the more expensive beef is often the stuff with the fat marbled through it, so is often more tender. If lean meat is what you are after then yes, the horse is probably leaner in general. It depends whether you term quality to be about taste/tenderness or leanness. I like horse meat, it is excellent. It is an enjoyable alternative to beef, not better, not worse
