Now that i'm back with deadlifting again i'm wondering whats the best way to go?? i was thinking something like this.
week 1 135 - 5 x 5
week 2 140 - 5 x 5
week 3 145 - 5 x 5
week 4 150 - 5 x 5
try a heavy single then bases a 12 week program on that.
see how things go from here

Any Ideas Guys??

5 x 5 is tried and tested

4 weeks 5 x 5, then drop to 3 x 3 for two weeks, 2 x 2 for one then see on the last week what your hitting and where your weak spots are.

Then PM me and I'll get you a routine from Andy lol

Its not ideal, but some pullers have had great sucsess like this so as long as you are happy pulling that way you should be ok.

Remember to add in some heavy upper back and lat work, heavy rows and close grip pulldown/pully stuff plus power shrugs.

And don't neglect your squats

alternative viewpoint, just a thought:

dicky back comeback routine should be different from normal build up.

personally i liked the "test the waters" approach, where you would go to a single - not crazy heavy by all means, and then drop to do a few reps. think about it from muscle fatique point of view, 5x5 is a solid routine, but you work on the same level, for many reps, might get tired/bored/etc and lose focus.

As one of the dicky back guys, i dont like repping deads - even when doing a compeback from injury.

Last time i did a comeback, i just added 10kg per week to that said single, starting real low, i think i started it from 120? but before long you are at 200+. And then some triples with a lower weight for s**ts and giggles.

scientific as always!

You won't find this in a book, but a little under half your pb for 10 x 10, next week add 10Kg and go 9 x 9, next week add 10 Kg and go 8 x 8... It really (re)conditions the deadlifting muscles well without making you strain in the early weeks. Just the thoughts of a newbie that it's worked for.Happy

cheers martin will defietly keep this in mind. i still think joni and tom have a point that i need to get the muscles use to the new tech and use to deadlifting and getting weight on the back. but your plan looks like a good conditioner.

When doing 5 x 5 are you supposed to do the same weight for all reps and sets?

Right. I will try that from now on.

How long should you keep such a routine on for anyway?
