Not been feeling great lately so tonight was a bit crap:

Press:

60 x 3
60 x 3
60 x 3
60 x 3
60 x 3

Not too bad, really. First set was the hardest I think.

Chins:

bodyweight x 3
bodyweight x 3
bodyweight x 3
bodyweight x 3
bodyweight x 3

Absolutely dire; just felt really, really weak.

Dumbbell bench press

27.5s x 8
27.5s x 6

Same as above, although I suppose it's been a very long time since I've flat dumbbell bench pressed, coupled with being third in line and not feeling that great and I don't think it's all that bad really.

Barbell rows:

80 x 10
80 x 10

Was really out of breath on these. Felt quite light, just really tired and fatigued.

Squats:

140 x 5
140 x 5

Not too bad. Nice beltless PR.

Back extensions:

bodyweight + 15 x 10
bodyweight + 15 x 10
bodyweight + 15 x 10

These were a bit harder.

Abs:

3 x 10

Crappy session tonight - suppose that's what I get when I take take time off from hard training. Been busy with careers related stuff, though, which is more important.

Front squat:

80 x 3
90 x 3
100 x 3

These were nice and fast, but core was beginning to give way on the 100 so I didn't bother with any-more. Thankfully my knees didn't hurt doing these - the knee sleeves must be helping.

Press:

This was a disaster. Got to 60 and only did one rep because it was hopeless.

Chin ups:

bodyweight x 4
bodyweight x 4
bodyweight x 2.5
bodyweight x 2
bodyweight x 2

Meh.

'Nother pretty crappy session tonight; but I've been training so infrequently over these last few weeks that I shouldn't expect better.

Power jerks:

60 x 3
65 x 2
70 x 1
75 x 1
80 x 1
85 x 1
90 x f, f

First time doing these. Couldn't catch them high enough on with 90 so they were more like a push press, and I couldn't lock it out.

Close grip bench press:

60 x 10
60 x 10

Triceps were knackered, and first time benching in ages. Meh.

Chin ups:

bodyweight x 3
bodyweight x 2
bodyweight x 1

Very disappointing.

Terrible session tonight.

Bench press:

60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 3

Was hoping for much more. I think that if I want to bench a lot [of weight], I need to bench a lot [of times per week].

Deficit deadlifts:

155 x 5

Nice PR, not too hard.

Bench press:

60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 3

This time the triple was a bit easier.

Rack deadlifts, just below knees:

worked up to 200 x 1 then pulled something in my back. Was quite painful then I went into the shower and showered it with hot water, and now it only feels like really uncomfortable DOMS. I'll be okay.

Summer and Autumn's Training Review.

Been a while since I've done one of these; stopped them over the summer because I was doing Madcow's 5x5 and since that had progression laid out clearly via exact weights to use on every set. Best progress I've made all my life on the bench, and squat progress was pretty good too. But I got a little bored of that so I decided to, foolishly, just try my own thing. Experience shows that that never works, so I planned to return to set programming.

But then autumn came and hence university ensued before I really got a chance, so I didn't really have time for a set training schedule. And now that I'm getting ass raped with coursework and projects, and I'll soon have job interviews too, this is even more so.

So I'll be dropping my training down to twice a week. It'll be full body and I'll be absolutely destroying myself. I'll be doing ramping sets for squats and bench press, up to a max triple of five, with one back off set during if I'm doing a triple. For assistance I'll just be doing sets across, sometimes deliberately to failure since the point is to really beat myself up, and with deadlifts I'll be continuing with the deficits for a single set of five, once per week.

I've lost a bit of ground on the bench press and this pisses me off. I know that I'll need to bench both days if I want to get better at it, but this means putting overhead work on the back foot, sadly. But oh well...

First workout in a while. Back is feeling better now too.

Squats:

60 x 5
80 x 5
100 x 5
115 x 5
130 x 5

Taking it easy. First time squatting in ages. These weren't too hard.

Paused bench:

40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 4

Sucks.

Push press:

40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5 (2+2+1)

These flew up - very encouraging! Had to rack it a few times on the last set though because my wrists were straining. Need to get some wrist wraps.

Eccentric chins:

bodyweight x 5 (8 second negative)
bodyweight x 3 (8 second negative)

Holy s**t these kicked my ass. But I've heard they're good at increasing your chin ups so I'll try them out.

Rows:

40 x 5
60 x 5
80 x 10

Easy enough.

90 x 3
100 x 3

Not too hard.

Push press:

40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5

Plenty more in the tank.

Chins:

bodyweight x 4
bodyweight x 3
bodyweight x 2

Meh.

Back extensions:

bodyweight + 15 x 10
bodyweight + 15 x 10

Started to get a little light headed so I stopped.

Squats:

65 x 5
85 x 5
105 x 5
120 x 5
135 x 5

Good good.

Push press:

40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
75 x 4.5 - failed lockout

Easy enough off the shoulders, just failing that lockout.

CGBP:

40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 4

Triceps were knackered after push presses.

Chin ups:

bodyweight x 4
bodyweight x 2

Crap. Went home because I've got lots of work to do.

Bench press:

60 x 5
70 x 5
85 x 2
70 x 5
70 x 5
70 x 5

Going to start the volume again for pressing, as this'll hopefully bring some size and strength. Didn't go for a third on 85 although the second rep wasn't too hard - could've maybe ground out a third but thought I'd do some back off sets instead. All back off sets were fairly easy.

Deadlift:

160 x 7

First time deadlifting from the floor in a while. Been over four weeks since I last did any sort of deadlifting so good to see I've not really lost any strength.

GHRs:

1 x 20

Face pulls:

2 x 20

Squats:

60 x 5
80 x 5
100 x 5
120 x 5
140 x 5

Not too hard.

Tried to push press and do other stuff but shoulder was having none of it, so I went home.

Squats:

60 x 5
80 x 5
100 x 5
120 x 5

Just did light squats tonight because I've not been "feeling it" this past week with all the uni work I've got.

Press:

30 x 5
40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 2

Meh.

Bench press:

40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 10

Better than I was expecting, especially since I pressed to failure beforehand.

Barbell rows:

60 x 8
70 x 8
80 x 8
90 x 8

Good good.

Okay session tonight.

Bench press:

40 x 5
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
85 x 1
85 x 2
70 x 5

Weights felt a bit heavier today than they did last time - I blame the fact that my PWO bacon buttie didn't have enough bacon in it. Got to 85 and it felt too heavy to get a second (I got a second last time) at the time, but then when I racked it, I knew I had more in me so I tried again and got a double. Felt like I maybe had a third in me like I felt last time as well, but trying to avoid failure, and I still got a higher total number of reps with 85 this time than last. Didn't do as much back off sets either because they felt slow and heavy.

Deadlift:

165 x 5

Harder than last time, but I still got them.

Hang power cleans:

60 x 3
65 x 3
65 x 3
65 x 3
70 x 3

Easy enough. Been ages since I've done an explosive lift so wasn't sure where I was at. Regret not doing these for so long as they really help with the posterior chain and explosiveness, and they're much more fun than bodybuilding s**te!
