Hasn't always been a bench press specialist Member 44, 1907 posts SQ 252.5, BP 220, DL 210682.5 kgs @ 83kgs Eq | Post Edited: 07.10.2011 @ 12:48 PM by aaron_lohan My advice is:Shopping Don't go shopping when you are hungry Have a list of items you want to buy and don't deviate from that. Buy supermarket's own brands Buy in bulk where possible Only buy what you need to eat Buy meat from a meat market When buying meat from a meat market the best time to go is at the end of the day as you will be able to get discounts Ideally go to the meat market on the last day it is open for a particular week, because they want to get rid of as much as possible because they will have to throw away any unsold meat. Using this idea I have gotten as many as 24 pork steaks for £10 Take packed lunches to work- if you spend £3 a day on lunch over the course of the year you should save over £500. Transport Car drivers Hypermile where possible If you can buy a motorcycle or scooter- the road tax is £16 pa, insurance is much cheaper and the economy is better e.g. my scooter can do 100mpg If you buy insurance pay it off in full it usually is cheaper. For journeys less than 3-4 miles use a bicycle. Utilities Use price comparison websites Pay by direct debit because you often get a loyalty bonus e.g. i pay gas and electric by DD and get £4 a month loyalty bonus Only use gas at night for a few hours and if you are out for the night turn it off. If you are living on your own or if there is 2 of you get a water meter, you can have them removed inside the first year if it turns out to be uneconomical. Use showers- this saves both water and gas Fill the washing bowl only once a day and do all your washing at once, I fill mine every 2 days. Put a bag of water in the cistern so that the toilet uses less water There are water saving gadgets you can put on the shower to use less water Flush as infrequently as you can tolerate. Squash the toilet roll so it makes it harder to get paper off it, this will encourage you to use less paper. The home Use price comparison websites to get cheaper quotes Pay insurance in full and you will get a discount- I saved £25 doing this for just buildings insurance. Some utilities companies offer free cavity and loft insulation- take advantage. There are some free solar panels schemes. If you are getting something done on your house have it done near christmas- tradesmen are quiet at these times and may offer good prices. Put rubbish directly into the wheelie bin and use recycling bins this saves on binbags. Finance Pay off your credit card as much as you can. Pay off any outstanding loans if possible. If you are paying for your bank account: don't, there are many free ones out there. If you can afford it make early repayments on your mortgage or put it into a separate savings account. If you are paying PPI reclaim it, you can reclaim it all by yourself don't be tempted to pay a company to recover it for you. If you get finance make sure its 0% Work out a weekly budget and then withdraw that amount once every week, don't be tempted to take more out, if you need more take it from next week's budget. On the other hand if theres a surplus take less money out next week. If you are buying a mortgage there are huge savings to be made by putting down a larger deposit. Leisure time Drinking- Don't take your bankcard out with you on a night out because you will just end up using- ive made that mistake a few times. Use drinks offers Drink beforehand so you need less when you're out You never need as much alcohol as you think in order to get pissed. Gambling- Stick to a budget regardless of how good or bad you are doing Childrens activities- Use free ones wherever possible such as taking them to the park, playing football, running. Theres a few there, I am a tight c**t but I have managed to pay the mortgage on a house working 16 hours a week for most of the past year. | ||
