Continental GP4000s is the best all round tyre on the market IMO. Can get for around £30 online.

A waste for your turbo though.

Have you looked at getting a turbo specific tyre? I know Tacx make one.

i bought a tyre from halfords with loads of tread im gonna use with a spare wheel that i will just put on when i wanna turbo.

so the new tyres are just for the road

even looking at all the tyres i can buy is sexual !

BTW, for ocmponents (although probably not tyres) some German shops are really cheap.

One ot check out is:

www.bike-discount.de

Their cassettes are half the price of some local shops.

Can I ask if you guys follow serious strength training programs while cycling? I'm somewhat new to weight training with about a year under the barbell and I'm struggling to balance cycling on the weekends with my training.

I have been following a mostly linear 5x5 'Starting Strength' program and have stalled prematurely on squats. I'm trying to find a balance but I believe the stall is down to fatigue. We ride for about 4-5 hours per weekend in the winter, with an added evening ride midweek in summer. Can this much cycling work with a strength program, or is the fatigue/cortisol too much for average individuals with good eating and sleeping patterns? I'm curious if anyone has managed to do both.

im doing a basic strength routine because it probably is beneficial , esp as im an older dude !!

in other news , got my garmin forerunner 310 and it has an extra you can buy - a cadence meter ,which also can track speed when on the turbo !!

if you are so inclined you can also buy a power meter ,just like what bradley uses !!

Defintely recommend the cadence meter. It great to get off and be able to compare distance, speed etc after the end of a long slog -eg tonight I did "There is no Try" followed by "Revolver" - 1hr 30min with an average cadence of 90 & a max of 118, an average speed of 16.9 mph and a mx of 57.5mph (i suspect something went wrong!) and a total distance of just over 25miles all nicely recorded on garmin connect automatcially.

Boar, definitely another +1 for the cadence sensor. Really really useful tool, and used properly will improve your cycling a lot IMO.

I haven't really done it so cant comment on experience but if i were trying to do it, I definitely wouldn't be doing the volume of a 5x5 as well as the cycling volume.

How much other riding are you doing? Only riding twice a week shouldnt be too taxing that it stops your pursuing strength goals.

That's it, 2 hour ride sat morning, 3 hour ride sun morning. I'm 6'3 105kg and my squat is stalled at 130kg, DL 180kg, BP 100kg. I'm 35 so not a spring chicken, but still plenty of recovery ability considering I eat plenty & sleep plenty. I'm just curious if anyone that does distance cycling (or running) can push up strength numbers - unfortunately they seem to be at totally different ends of the physical activity spectrum, perhaps incompatible beyond meagre (weak) strength levels like I have achieved.
