That's just brilliant news, sounds like the rumours I've heard are true.....they'll go from Hebden Bridge up crag vale (England's longest climb), drop into our village (Ripponden) on Rochdale road, then up Ripponden Bank (where I used to do my hill reps on the bike) then drop into Elland.

There's a pub called the Fleece almost at the top of Ripponden Bank, what a vantage point...that's where I'll be, can't tell you how excited I am !!!!!

TDU kicks off tonight/tomorrow morning. Any interest in this for anyone other than Australian riders? Or is it still just a glorified training camp/ punishment race for the guys who have eaten too many mince pies at Christmas? I will watch it, but it's not the 'proper' season until its in Belgium, in a hailstorm, with everyone wearing tights and abandoning at the feed station........

Greipel is there to try and piss on Goss's chips but glorified training camp is about where it's at. I thi I sky have got the Boss there to try and pinch a stage and I thought I read they were giving Luke Rowe an outing as well.

Looks like glorified base miles pre the Classics for most.

Shame about the race mate.

How much you pay for the 3s? I train on 5s and think they are a very good all round wheel.

You won't need them for 'aero' but they do offer another position to ride in which when you're In a world of pain is a good thing.

I hang I over the bars a lot during lejog and if I was doing ironman would have my aero bars on...

I've seen claims of around 1 mile an hour for the same effort - does that sound right, and if so does they take a lot of learning?

I'm getting quite annoyed at the prospect of you, Boar and Gates being better than me....

I'd just like to be fit enough to be allowed to carry the kit bags! I don't expect to be faster than anyone.

That's the thing Steve. If you can hold the position for long periods of time, then you will see aerodynamic benefits. However, if you keep switching back and forth, as it can be an uncomfortable position to hold and get the most out of, then the benefits are negligible. As Cuddles has said, for something like an Ironman it does provide an alternative position which will allow you to shift the pain to another part of your body (neck/shoulders/back) for a while and give you some pain relief rather than a specific aerodynamic boost.

Sounds bang on. I can't ever get up any enthusiasm for it. Factor in Liggett and Sherwen on commentary and that's another tick in the 'minus' column. It does give the opportunity to post this though, as that is as much excitement as the TDU offers.
