call me sir or recieve broken toes Member 1626, 250 posts SQ 170, BP 112.5, DL 225507.5 kgs @ 83kgs UnEq | Firstly – I’ll sum up my performance a little bit later Secondly – I’m not sure I can remember having much more fun at a sporting event. To say I loved this day is one massive understatement!!! Thirdly – big thanks to those involved today (athletes, officials, supports, organisers). Mark you’ve got a great team who appear to be enjoying the comp just as much as the competitors. Guys, personal thanks to you all. This was my first strongman competition as a competitor and it will most certainly not be my last based on today’s experience! Excellent!!!

call me sir or recieve broken toes Member 1626, 250 posts SQ 170, BP 112.5, DL 225507.5 kgs @ 83kgs UnEq | Made decision to enter this when I was weighing about 85kg. Thought would be good incentive to lose some more weight as I was 92kg earlier this year! Weight lose has been a challenge but got there. Went to bed last night 11pm 80.3kg (result) Had disturbed sleep due to competition excitement and late night revellers. Got out of bed 3am (had a very small piss of yellow dust) and had a sneaky weigh in, 80.2kg - WTF! Why is it not less? Went back to sleep and got up again for second sneaky weigh in at 6.30am - 79.7kg – result! Roll round 8am at OSG. Warmed up under intense heat of early morning sun - Things going good and very excited during pre-comp talk, asking stupid questions to get a little bit involved. Drew position 7 for first event. Farmers – 220kg – less than 6 weeks ago I couldn’t lift more than about 160kg without straps but luckily things have improved – very pleased with my performance here, straight up and down and no drops. Confidence high! Log – my pressing is s**te and knew this would possibly be my weakest event – you can’t understand how pleased I was when we were able to start at 70kg – my best in training is 82kgish but took about 40 attempts. Got 80kg and met pre-comp expectation. Yoke – in hindsight my performance here could have been much improved had the barrel been involved. Am very comfortable running with barrel in hand – result of misspent youth! Unfortunately I ballsed up second half of event following the turn failing to keep my hands high, which positions shoulders well for yoke to sit on. Dropped yoke panicked and lost time and places. Only consolation here was still beating the boy Larrington even with a disaster of a performance. Eat my dust Damo. Dead lift medley – Only managed to pull 200kg for first time (205kg x 2 with straps) about 2/3 weeks ago. So leading up to comp was quite concerned I might not make any of the medley lifts (this time last week). My grip has somehow miraculously come on and I managed 200kg from floor (no straps and 240kg from rack with long hold on Monday!!). Confidence great. Completed all the lifts in respectable time, with no straps and even had 2 goes at van and high bar! V pleased!! Dumbbell for reps – this event has been going well in training and I have worked hard past couple of weeks to use left and right hands. On day failed first attempt on left, but didn’t panic and carried on. Made 8 attempts at lifts which is the most I’ve managed in the time. Only 6 good ones – although pleased with this. (Beat Larrington again!!) Stones – Have managed to get the 135kg in training – managed 3 in 30 seconds last weekend with 110kg in training – felt really confident about getting single or double with 135kg – did everything I could with that stone ball other than put it over the bar. Completely deflated and could barely lift my head let along the “small” 110kg. Disappointment cuts deep on this one. (PS Glen K – your effin training platform was too kin low mate) In summary this was a very pleasant day and I hope I put a good performance in on behalf of the old folk. Very pleased with my debut and certainly will be back again after working on today’s slipups. Most satisfying point of the day was hearing Larrington’s name being called out before mine in the final position reverse order list. Only joking Damo awesome stone from the skinny kid!!!

just call me J-spaz. Member 1160, 1556 posts SQ 205, BP 140, DL 260605.0 kgs @ 83kgs UnEq | Post Edited: 04.07.2011 @ 09:59 AM by jamspastic Sunday 3/6/11STRONG AS AN ANT COMP Have been dieting for the past 6/7 weeks in preperation for this so i wouldn't have to drop too much weight over night. Ended up losing about 6kg and weighed 80.4 last night. Stopped drinking at 8pm, and weighed myself in the morning and was shocked to see i was 78.8!!! Didn't want to risk eating or drinking anything though so held off to i got to olympic gym and weighed in at 79kg! 220kg FRAME CARRY Felt pretty light and got a fairly quick time, but nowhere near fast enough. Think i came about 7th?? LOG Got 70,80,90 but failed 95. Was very disapointed with that, but it just didn't feel right today. Log kept slipping and i felt pretty off balance. DEADLIFT MEDLEY Knew this would be a good event for me. All the weights felt really light and went through it in 28 seconds. Thought that was pretty fast but Glen, ste and Mike had other ideas and i ended up coming 4th in my best event!! boo! YOKE Was up against Mike in this. Pretty much neck and neck all the way, with Mike just beating me on the return back. Happy with the time, not sure on placing though? DUMBBELL Was not looking forward to this event as it's by far my weakest and to make matters worse i was going up against Mike again!!! Don't know how i did it but i managed 9 reps!! Dumbbel felt so comfortable on my shoulder and i felt like i could have just kept going!! So happy to come joint second with Ste on my worst event!!!! ATLAS STONE Went for the 135 first. Managed to lap it and get it up a bit,but not high enough, so asked for the 110 stone and managed 4 reps which is a p.b. Could have got more if i hadn't have gone for the 135,but thats the risk i took Came 5th overall and very pleased. Feel like i've improved a fair bit in my moving events, but overhead still needs a lot of work! EDIT: Forgot to put this yesterday as i was too knackered! Big thanks to Mark and all the sponsers for putting on a great show. All the loaders and helpers for making things go very smoothly. Big congrats for eveyone that made weight as i know a few of us struggled. Thought the comp had a very relaxed feel and everyone seemed pretty chilled, and also thanks to kenny for giving lots of advice on the dumbbel and pretty much all the events.
