I`m fully nurished today - I`ve had my findus crispy pancakes and haribo .. Heres my question - Q- Pro slams have "i think" 30g of hydrolysen collagen protein in them . and i know for a fact i could drink ten of these a day .. 600 ml of liquid = 300g protein .. I`d have to drink around 8 pint of average protein powder to get similar to that which i cant do .. so what is the effectiveness/ difference with this "Hydrolysed Collagen Protein" Bulls**t ?? or just a costly but effective alternative .. Going by what 1369 Phil posted the other day about how much protein is ACTUALLY in these things, I'd rather go with steak or chicken. I might supplement with a shake for 50g of protein, 50g can easily be done with a snack of 100g nuts and a pint of milk, which only leaves 200g to come from animal products. I'm a bit sceptical about supplements. http://www.reddit.com/r/Fitness/comments/uva9t/big_reddit_prot...

It's very easy to get what you need from a few meals. 1g per lb of lean bodyweight is a simple amount to consume and is possibly more than you actually need. Even when dieting.

Member 4046, 590 posts | Well I did a cursory look when you posted and as mentioned I think, there is a bit of research where collagen was added to dairy proteins like whey and given to patients for various health-related reasons. Some of the studies found that the protein supplement helped prevent muscle wastage when people were basically starving, etc., etc., Can't say I found much in sports people. The blend that they use is something patented as actinase, which is a propietry blend used in various circles and contains whey and casein isolates (which are high quality proteins)as well as the collagen, so it will not be an incomplete source. So, I suspect that the reason they are doing this would be based on a possible additive effect of the protein blend on promoting a positive nitrogen balance, which is used as an indicator of a surplus of protein/amino acids that can be used for growth, repair, etc. I also wonder if it is more heat and shelf stable, meaning that it is less likely to denature in higher temperatures. There is other stuff in protein slam too like beta alanine, of course. With it being a blend, I suspect that it will be more expensive to manufacture than whey alone.
