you think the band assisted deadlift will be good for someone like me in strengthening the low back? as i have wondered about them for a good exercise for variation.

No, not right away, the whole point of it is to work on speed off floor and lockout as the weight kicks in, I think you would be better working with chains until your totally happy with form, that way your working the same concept but speed is not an issue. This way you strengthen your weak point and weaker muscles but don't run the risk of re injury trying to compromise form for speed.
Once you have mastered the chain then yeah bands are awesome
I am switching back to conventional bands after this 3 week cycle and they are evil I have about 40 maybe 50k on Duncan on conventional dealift and he kicks my ass at it.
Simply because his back is more conditioned to volume and he has better speed in his pulls
Try chains Neil then work up to revers band then conventional bands and you should have one solid lower back

Had a crap session on Thursday and missed training over the weekend with team event so it was back on track today

27/06/11
DE squat and deadlift
13inch safety bar box squats with blue bands
50k x 3
90k x 3
100k x 2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2 getting better at these blue bands where a good jump up from greens

Front squats
60k x 3
100k x 3
120k x 3
125k x 3/3/3/3/3/3/3

My knee was playing up a bit, must have been from all the equipment management over the weekend. This affected my speed for the rest of the workout

Sumo with chains
70k x 1
120k x 3
170k x 1
190k x1/1/1/1/1 too slow dropped weight back
170k x 1/1/1/1/1

Band assisted deadlifts with blues
180k x 2
220k x 2
260k x 2
300k x2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2/2
These could have been faster but protecting my left knee a little

Finished with abbs and calves

Very very tiered
That's me finished my first 3 week messocycle of DE next 3 weeks it's safety box squats with chains, ultra wide sumo, 15inch with bands and good mornings
Can't wait Grin
