The 290 wasn't overly hard, I'm going to do a week of paused squats this week and then 295 or 300 next week, yhen 700lbs in wraps. Cheers mate Happy

The plan is to go 240kg+ at the bodypower expo next year mate! That comp attracts some big raw benchers!

I originally started out doing MMA and Sambo (Russia martial art) for the pure hell of it and self defence etc. Loved it. But I never competed, although my trainers wanted me to, due to my constant moving, age (i'm old as in very lol), not really that into competitions and competing, and the fact that I did lots of sparring anyway (that took care of my competitive urges). Plus, because of all of the above the training was sporadic to say the least.
But then I added Muay Thai to the equation, and i'm now thinking of competing in that. I often do full-on sparring (basically competing/fighting) in training and wouldn't mind having a few fights just for the hell of it. Still feel way too old for it though, so we'll see. Wish i'd started 20 years earlier tbh. And my girlfriend will disown me if I get a broken nose LOL I will probably go to Thailand at some point to train for a couple of months though, which should be fun.

Competing in bench meets for me is a much bigger buzz than just lifting... i can imagine the same is true in fighting sports and maybe even to a greater extent!

True mate I have but it would be tough to mix competing in bench with competing in/training a sport that requirea lors of cardiovascular type training.

I think the excessive cardio is more down to the need to make weight rather than actual training! The lads I know that fight prefer doing more cardio than restricting calories!
