When doing a dumbell clean and press, am I allowed to snatch the dumbell from floor straight to overhead? Or, as the name implies, do i have to get it on my shoulders first?

Yeah, that would be allowed, as long as the other hand didn't touch the DB at all.
Only a BEAST would be able to use that technique though!

I'm not a beast by any means, I can barely do a few reps with a 40kg dumbell. i was just wondering. I did some standing dumbell presses with leg drive and can't get the second dip. Snatching a 40kg dumbell whilst fresh seemed MUCH easier than doing it after a few other shoulder exercises but with as much leg drive as poss.

I don't think it would be ???
I have wondered this before! Because I have snatched a 54kg strength shop dumbbell but...
You don't clean it ... Or press it!
I would ask the orgoniser if your planning on doing it at comp day mate

Or don't ask. Listen to the rules for the event. If no mention of snatching it but no mention of anything stopping you doing it then fire in.
