The compromise is that some guilty people will walk free. That is exactly how it should be. Sadly, this is far from the case. Watch a documentary called "after innocence" and you'll see.

Loads of people on my fb keep making comments about how it's a disgrace that the police officers who shot him went free. As far as I can tell these people only have the information presented in the media to go on (just like the rest of us), yet they're somehow in a better position to judge the guilt of the officers than a full jury?

I'm almost certain he didnt do it, was something to do with birds father where she wasnt supposed to have sex before she married and he would kill her if she did. Same thing happened with another guy who was found not quilty, the dad must have found out about tyson so she said he raped her. He never thought he would get put in prison because of who he was and made a mess of the trial / they found out about the other guy too late so couldnt be used. I think he was violent with women an bunch of bulls**t but dont think he raped her. This

No, you said: "The system is designed so to make it as unlikely as possible for an innocent person to go to prison." IMO there is far too much prejudice, corruption, ignorance and downright laziness in the US justice system for that to be the case.

Eat.Cycle.Sleep.Win Member 2, 12511 posts SQ 190, BP 150, DL 280620.0 kgs @ 99kgs UnEq Administrator | Well in that case what you originally said is wrong. You are talking about the application of the system, rather than the system itself. Do you believe that the UK Criminal Justice System is victim to the same problems? The concept of a trial by jury, where someone is innocent until proven guilty, will lead to guilty people walking free, was my point. That is all.

The concept of a trial by jury, where someone is innocent until proven guilty, will lead to guilty people walking free, was my point. That is all. I think that if the system truly was designed to protect innocent people, it would be much more difficult to apply the system in ways that pervert this. I don't really know about enough about the UK criminal justice system to make a conclusion about it. I chose to add that it was my opinion in the second post as I don't want to pretend I know alot about these things - it's simply a conclusion that I have come to from what I have read/watched from a couple of sources But you're right the overall concept of a jury etc at its most basic level is of course to protect the innocent. I just think it's an interesting topic.
