This time is hard to conceive of. I struggle to imagine how’s its possible, lol. Do you think you could beat the world record?

Edit: wait a second — that is a world record??! Or have there been faster unofficial times vs. what’s on the concept 2 website?

Overall world record is 1:10.5.

This 1:12.7 is equal to the (new, also done as a WC qualification piece) 40-49 world record.

1:12.7 to 1:10.5 is a massive jump, that much is certain.

Yeah 1.10 ish is the number I had in the back of my head but missed it on the website somehow. And yeah, that would like a big jump! Still incredible time though

Back on a Concept two after more than three years off.

I've maintained some resistance training, but my weight is down to 101kg now, mostly on account of the 32,000km I've ridden on the bike in the last 26 months.

I've got a really good level of fitness now, and was curious to see how it'd translate to the rower, so I used one at the the local gym.

I set the target of testing my 5000m, which I did in 16:44.2, which is 14 seconds faster than my PB from when I actually rowed. 11th fastest globally this year, apparently.

My goal over winter is to have a pop at the half marathon record for my age group (40-49). It's currently 1:11.04.2 and my pb from 3 years ago is 1:16.06.5. Or I could have a go at the British record, which is 1:11.28.4.

My 5k pace today was already faster than what is needed for WR HM pace, so I'm hoping with some coaching and some focused training that it should be doable. My work have provisionally offered to sponsor me for it (ie, buy the machine for me).

Either way, if you could update my 5k time to 16:44.2, I'd be grateful Grin

Haha! Thanks Grin

I'm starting the rower seriously next week. I have my final cycle event of the year on Saturday, so after that, I can prioritise rowing.

I'm currently just doing 30r20s. I started at 2:00/500m pace and I'm dropping it by 1s each session.

I'm on 1:55 pace at the moment and it's still incredibly easy. My PB for a 30r20 is a 1:45.7 pace, so I'll maybe keep going to 1:44 pace, notch up a pb and reevaluate.

I'm taking it very slowly and carefully. I strained my rotator cuffs last time by doing too much too soon. I won't make the same mistake again.

Off the back of posting that 16:44.2 5k onto the C2 rankings, I got headhunted onto the Swedish National Squad for the World Championships in February Eek

So, 13 weeks to get my 2k and 500m nailed. Realistincally, looking at 6:15 ish and 1:18 ish hopefully.

I'll have to whittle the cycling down from 10 hours a week to 5 hours to give myself a chance with the rowing!
