Gonna start posting my training log here, normally I stay off the forums, but this seems like a pretty great one! Not a lot of BS and lots of actually strong people.

Just to very briefly cover my training background, I had my roots in olympic lifting from the ages of 14-16, then the 5/3/1 program continuously from 16-18. I've been running Westside for about two years now, and I've had enormous success with it. Did my first strongman show in June 2009 (took dead last in the Men's 90kg Open!) and was hooked.

This is my 2nd week of being back to training from the North American Strongman U90kg National Championships. Right now, I'm running a 4 week mini-cycle because I begin my next Westside training cycle. Just want to get a few weeks of reps in, considering I trained so heavy for so long before Nationals. My set-up is currently like this:

Monday - 5/3/1 Barbell Strict Press
Wednesday - 5/3/1 Back Squat (I never wear a belt in training, aside from a couple of weeks pre-contest.)
Thursday - 5/3/1 Close Grip Bench Press
Saturday - Ortmayer Deadlift Routine (3 weeks) and Events

On Week 4, I deload and go back to Westside. My typical Westside set-up is like this:

Monday - ME/RE Strict Press
Wednesday - ME/DE Squatting
Thursday - ME/RE Bench Press
Saturday - ME/DE Deadlifting

With this set up, I rotate the days like this: Week 1 - RE Strict Press, ME Squat, ME Bench, DE Deadlift. Week 2 - ME Strict Press, DE Squat, RE Bench Press, ME Deadlift.

Although I am a full time strongman, I am a big believer in getting strong in the gym first. Therefore I revolve my training around my gym lifts. I train my events either by doing 2-3 events after deadlifting every other week, or training 1 strongman event per gym session (e.g. Circus DB or One Motion Log Press before strict pressing, yoke or medley after squatting, stones/farmers after DL'ing). My diet is solid, I eat clean almost all of the time and cheat maybe 1-2 times per month. I hang out with whole eggs, whole milk, red meat, chicken, rice, steel cut oats, homemade meal replacement shakes, raw nuts, and all kinds of fruit 5-6 times a day.

Hope you guys enjoy following the log! I'll be asking questions, and answering any of yours along the way.

Shoulder prehab work / band traction

13" Circus Dumbbell C&P
- Warmups: 20kg DB, 40kg DB, 50kg DB x 3 per arm, 60kg circus DB x 1 per arm
- 75kg (165lb) x 3 right, 3 left
- 75kg (165lb) x 3 right, 3 left
- 75kg (165lb) x 8 right only (PR) - focused on racking the dumbbell comfortably, yet quickly between presses

Barbell Strict Press (Week 2 of 5/3/1)
- 75kg (165lbs) x 3
- 79.5kg (175lbs) x 3
- 84.1kg (185lbs) x 9 - left a few reps in the tank

Inverted Rows w/ Rings
- 4 sets 15-10 reps, added chains on the last two sets

Neutral Grip Lat Pulldowns
- 3 sets 12-10 reps

Rolling DB Tricep Extensions
- 3 sets 10-8 reps, worked up to 29.5kg (65lb) dumbbells

Battling Rope Tabata - 1 round

Definitely a great session to start back on. I'm home for the week on Thanksgiving holiday, so I'm able to train at my strongman gym (Hardkore Fitness) one town over from me. We just got a 13" circus dumbbell in, so I decided to get some work in with it before strict pressing. Had to readjust to being fluid between reps, considering I haven't done heavy dumbbell in a couple of months. Barbell strict pressing felt great as well.

5 exercises for dynamic warmup, 5 minutes PVC rolling, 10 minutes low back traction w/ bands

Back Squat - olympic depth, no belt or wraps - Week 2 of 5/3/1
- Warmups: from the empty bar (25kg/55lb) to 184.1kg/405lbs x 1
- 188.6kg/415lbs x 3
- 195.5kg/430lbs x 3
- 202.3kg/445lbs x 8 - good set, all of the reps looked the same

Safety Bar Good Mornings
- 4 sets 8 reps, working up to 106.8kg/235lbs. Focused on keeping my form as strict as possible, and used the gym owner to call me out if I was getting sloppy.

One Leg Hamstring Curls
- 4 sets 12-10 reps

Rope Pulldowns to Belly
- 5 sets 10 reps - love this exercise, really hammers my mid-back

Wanted to do some Prowler pushing or tire flipping after the session, but had to rush out to an appointment.

Last day at home before heading back to 3 weeks of final's prep, so I had to get a good workout in. 2nd week of the Ortmayer Program wrapped up today, anxious to see the results in 2-3 cycles of this.

Barbell Deadlift - beltless, no straps
- 4x4 @ 193.2kg/425lbs
- 1x2 @ 213.6kg/485lbs
- 1x2 @ 227.7kg/525lbs
- 1x12 @ 193.2kg/425lbs - plenty left in the tank, definitely lowballed this max a bit generously

Yoke Walk - 100', beltless
- 372.7kg/720lbs for 3 quick runs, no drops with decent speed

Frame Carry - 100'
- Started with the empty frame, and kept adding weight to it until 100' became impossible to complete. Ended up with a pretty heavy 35' carry.

8 total sets ab work
